The latest NFL playoff picture points to several strong favorites to make it to the postseason. As we get set for NFL Week 7 action, the San Francisco 49ers remain the top team in odds on the NFC side. For the AFC, the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs continue to top the board.
Further down the list in both conferences, competitive races appear to be brewing in a few divisions, as well as for wild card slots. Each week, we review the current NFL playoff odds and consider what the seeds and matchups would look like if the playoffs started today, using the latest odds as a guide.

Since their opening loss to the Lions, the Chiefs have ripped off five straight wins. They appear to be the team to beat in the chase for the AFC’s top seed. The Dolphins have a slight lead over the Bills in the AFC East race, but Buffalo holds a head-to-head win over Miami. Here’s how the AFC seeds would line up based on the current betting odds:
- Bye: (1) Kansas City Chiefs
- (2) Miami Dolphins vs. (7) Pittsburgh Steelers
- (3) Baltimore Ravens vs. (6) Cleveland Browns
- (4) Jacksonville Jaguars vs. (5) Buffalo Bills
The Ravens and Jaguars hold the lead in odds among AFC North and AFC South teams. As the current NFL division odds indicate, the races are far from decided. The Browns captured even more attention as a potential postseason contender following last week’s surprising upset over the 49ers.
The Steelers return from a bye with a record of 3-2 and hold a slight lead over the Chargers and Bengals in odds. Meanwhile, the Texans entered the season with low expectations. The team is now 3-3 as it takes this week off, while CJ Stroud is the current betting favorite to win Offensive Rookie of the Year.
Odds for the Jets and Raiders have been on the rise after the teams pulled to 3-3 with victories last week, while uncertainty abounds for the Colts and Titans due to QB injuries. At the bottom of the chart, it has already been a trying season for both the Patriots and Broncos. There’s nothing to suggest that a quick turnaround is on the way for either club.
On this week’s schedule, there are two conference games of note that could impact the board. The Colts announced this week that Anthony Richardson is done for the season. They’ll host a Browns team that could be without Deshaun Watson once again. The Chiefs have a chance to take further control of the AFC West when they welcome the Chargers.

The 49ers and Eagles suffered their first losses of the season last week, at the hands of the Browns and Jets, respectively. The two NFC finalists from a season ago have some company in the ranks of heavy favorites to reach the playoffs: the 5-1 Lions. Here’s what the NFC matchups would be if we used the latest betting lines:
- Bye: (1) San Francisco 49ers
- (2) Detroit Lions vs. (7) Buccaneers/Falcons
- (3) Philadelphia Eagles vs. (6) Seattle Seahawks
- (4) New Orleans Saints vs. (5) Dallas Cowboys
Joining the big three as a heavy favorite to reach the postseason are the 4-2 Cowboys. Dallas lost convincingly to the 49ers in Week 5 but rebounded with a road win over the Chargers on Monday night. The Saints are still the betting favorite to win the NFC South, but the odds are expecting a three-team race.
We’ll gain further insight into the division hierarchy this week. In one of the featured NFC matchups, the Falcons travel to face the Buccaneers. The teams are tied in odds for the seventh spot, and the result of the game could swing things dramatically. Atlanta is 3-3 following a loss to the Commanders, while Tampa Bay is 3-2 after falling to the Lions.
Lurking behind the two clubs are the 3-3 Rams and the 2-3 Packers. Los Angeles picked up a convincing win over the Cardinals last week and now prepares to welcome a Steelers team that’s returning from a bye. Green Bay had last week off and returns to action with a trip to take on the Broncos, a team that has lost two straight.
On this week’s edition of Monday Night Football, the banged up 49ers are looking to rebound from their first loss of the season and will be facing the Vikings. A San Francisco victory will likely keep the 49ers atop the board, while a Minnesota upset could shake things up. Several key players are questionable for the 49ers, including Christian McCaffrey.

Dallas is off this week, while Detroit has a tough test against the Ravens.
