Alberta sports bettors are weeks away from one of the most significant changes to the province’s gambling landscape in years. On July 13, 2026, the regulated online betting market officially opens, and DraftKings plans to be available from day one.

The Boston-based operator needs little introduction. DraftKings built its name in daily fantasy sports before becoming one of the dominant sportsbooks in North America.

DraftKings Ontario has been one of the more popular Canadian sportsbooks since May 2022, and Alberta will become the second province the platform is live in. In this DraftKings Alberta review, we cover what the platform offers, how to get started, and whether it is the right one of the Alberta sportsbooks for you.

Is DraftKings Legal in Alberta?

Alberta iGaming regulators have set July 13, 2026, as the launch date for all approved operators. DraftKings Sportsbook will be among them, going fully live on that date.

Sports betting in Alberta falls under a provincial framework governed by two bodies. The Alberta iGaming Corporation (AiGC) oversees day-to-day market operations while the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission (AGLC) acts as the market regulator. DraftKings has applied for an AGLC license and intends to be live on launch day, pending regulatory approval.

Eligible individuals (18+) physically present in Alberta can now pre-register, though deposits and wagering remain unavailable until the market opens. Once licensed, DraftKings will be legal in Alberta. When that occurs, this operator will join the regulated framework that provides bettors with formal consumer protections, dispute resolution, and responsible gaming oversight.

DraftKings is one of the most popular Canada betting sites in Ontario already, and the same is expected in Alberta.

DraftKings Alberta Launch and Partnerships

DraftKings confirmed its intent to launch in Alberta in April 2026, announcing that DraftKings Alberta is set to go live on July 13, 2026, pending AGLC regulatory approval. The province will become the operator’s second Canadian market after Ontario, where DraftKings has been active since May 2022. Once legally approved, Alberta will become DraftKings’ 34th North American sports betting jurisdiction overall.

The timing carries added significance. The launch date aligns with the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which North America co-hosts. Greg Karamitis, DraftKings’ Executive Vice President and General Manager of Sports, called it “a particularly exciting moment for sports fans in the province.”

On the partnerships side, DraftKings holds official agreements with several major leagues. It is an official sports betting and daily fantasy partner of the NHL and WNBA. Additionally, this company is an official sports betting partner of the NBA, an authorized gaming operator of MLB, and an official daily fantasy partner of NASCAR. Those league partnerships reflect the scale of DraftKings’ North American operations and reinforce its standing as an established operator entering the Alberta market.

How to Sign Up at DraftKings Alberta

Signing up for DraftKings Alberta should be simple once registration becomes available in the province:

  • Click one of our DraftKings Alberta promo links when they become available to be redirected to the official registration page.
  • Select the option to create an account and begin the signup process.
  • Enter your full name, date of birth, and Alberta residential address.
  • Provide your email address and mobile phone number.
  • Create a username and secure password for your account.
  • Confirm that you meet Alberta’s legal betting age requirement.
  • Complete any required identity verification steps, which may include providing additional personal details or uploading government-issued ID.

The exact signup flow may vary slightly once DraftKings Alberta launches, but most regulated sportsbooks ask for the same basic information.

Account Verification

Identity verification is required to confirm your age and comply with provincial regulatory standards. The platform attempted to verify me automatically using the personal information I provided during sign-up. And for many users, that is all it takes.

However, if automatic verification fails, DraftKings will prompt you to upload supporting documents manually. At this stage, users will need to submit:

  • A valid photo ID issued by a government authority (driver’s license or passport)
  • Documents confirming your residential address (utility bill, bank statement, or phone bill)
  • A possible identity number check, depending on provincial regulations

Photos must be clear, unaltered, and not expired. Manual review can take up to 48 hours to complete. DraftKings requires full verification of your identity before it will process any withdrawal requests. For that reason, it makes sense to sort it out early rather than wait until you are ready to cash out.

DraftKings Alberta App

Beyond its official website, iOS and Android users can access DraftKings through a dedicated mobile app. The app delivers the full sportsbook experience, including live betting, deposits, withdrawals, and bet tracking.

The app also features push notifications, which alert users when their bets settle or new markets open. For bettors who follow live games closely, the app’s real-time functionality makes it a practical tool.

iOS App

I downloaded the DraftKings app directly from the Apple App Store. It carries a 4.7-star rating there, and from what I have seen using the platform in Ontario, that score is well earned. Navigation is smooth, live betting is easy to access, and the bet slip is responsive even during busy game nights. Concerning compatibility, the app runs on:

  • iPhone – iOS 15.0 or later
  • iPod touch – iOS 15.0 or later
  • Apple Vision – VisionOS 1.0 or later.

Alberta bettors should note that access to the DraftKings app will be available starting on the July 13 launch date.

Android App

Android users can also find the DraftKings app on the Google Play Store, where it also holds a 4.7-star rating. Your device must run Android 5.0 or up for the app to work. It delivers the same excellent experience as the iOS version, including live betting, same-game parlays, account management, and push notifications.

What to Bet on at DraftKings Alberta

Hockey leads the way at DraftKings, as you would expect for any top Canadian sportsbook. The NHL sits at the top of the betting menu, followed closely by the CFL, NFL, MLB, and NBA. Soccer and international events like the World Cup also draw significant coverage. Alberta bettors will find the lineup well-matched to local preferences.

NHL Betting at DraftKings Alberta

Hockey is one of DraftKings’ strongest sports, making it a natural fit for Alberta bettors. Along with standard moneylines, puck lines, and totals, DraftKings is known for offering a huge selection of NHL player props and same-game parlay options.

Edmonton Oilers Betting

Oilers fans can wager across a full range of markets when DraftKings launches in Alberta. Moneyline bets on game outcomes are the most straightforward option. In addition, the sportsbook offers puck lines, totals, and an extensive selection of player props.

If you want to bet on Connor McDavid’s point total for a particular game or on the Oilers to win the Stanley Cup at the start of a new season, DraftKings offers both. The depth of NHL coverage on the platform means you are rarely limited to just the obvious market

Calgary Flames Betting

Flames bettors have access to the same variety of markets as Oilers fans. Moneyline, puck line, totals, and player props all apply. You can also place futures bets on outcomes like division winners or season totals. Whether you follow the Flames game by game or prefer to make longer-term wagers before the season begins, the market structure at DraftKings accommodates both approaches.

CFL Betting in Alberta

Alberta has two CFL teams, the Edmonton Elks and the Calgary Stampeders, and DraftKings covers the league throughout the regular season and playoffs. Standard markets include game outcomes, point spreads, totals, and the Grey Cup winner.

CFL betting carries real weight in Alberta, where the province’s two franchises generate consistent local betting interest. Both teams attract steady wagering throughout the season, with futures markets like the Grey Cup winner available long before play begins.

NFL Betting at DraftKings Alberta

DraftKings has built much of its reputation around football betting and offers extensive NFL coverage throughout the season. Bettors can expect player props, alternate lines, same-game parlays, futures, and live betting markets across every game on the schedule.

Soccer Betting at DraftKings Alberta

Soccer fans will find betting markets for major leagues and tournaments from around the world, including the Premier League, Champions League, MLS, and FIFA World Cup events. DraftKings also offers a wide range of player, team, and match props that go beyond basic win-draw-win betting.

Futures and Prop Betting

One of DraftKings’ biggest strengths is the depth of its futures and prop betting markets. Whether you’re betting on Stanley Cup winners, MVP races, season awards, or individual player performances, the sportsbook typically offers more options than many competing Alberta sportsbooks.

Types of Bets at DraftKings Alberta

All the standard bet types are available to DraftKings users, including:

  • Moneyline: You pick which team wins. For example, you bet on the Oilers to win a specific game and collect if they do.
  • Point Spread: The favorite gives up points, and the underdog receives them. DraftKings also offers alternate lines, which let you adjust the spread in exchange for different odds. On a puck line, the standard spread in hockey is 1.5 goals.
  • Totals (Over/Under): You bet on whether the combined score will be above or below a set number. DraftKings also offers alternate totals, so if the posted total does not suit you, you can shift it and take adjusted odds.
  • Props: Player and game props let you bet on outcomes within a game rather than the result itself. How many points will a specific player score? How many passing yards in an NFL game? Props cover a wide range of outcomes.
  • Futures: These are bets placed on outcomes decided weeks or months later, such as Stanley Cup champions, Grey Cup winners, or season award recipients.

Parlays at DraftKings Alberta

Parlays combine two or more individual bets into one ticket. Every selection must win for the parlay to pay out, which increases risk but raises the potential return. In addition to offering multi-game parlay betting, DraftKings supports same-game parlays across different sports and leagues.

Live Betting at DraftKings Alberta

In-game betting is also available at DraftKings. Live betting lets you place wagers while a match is in progress. Odds update in real time as the action unfolds, and animated play-by-play data feeds help you follow games without a live stream. You can bet mid-period on hockey outcomes, adjust your position on totals at halftime, or open entirely new markets based on how a game develops.

Odds at DraftKings Alberta

DraftKings is generally competitive on pricing across its major markets. In my experience with the Ontario platform, the odds on popular NHL and NFL games tend to align with those of other major regulated operators.

Alternate lines are consistently available if the standard spread or total does not appeal to you. Where DraftKings sometimes pulls ahead is in the depth of its prop market. The sheer volume of available player props often means more pricing options than you would find at smaller books. Odds do vary by sport and market, so shopping around remains worthwhile for serious bettors.

Best Features of DraftKings in Alberta

A few of DraftKings’ characteristics stand out compared to other regulated sportsbooks that will be going live in Alberta. These features include:

Same-Game Parlays

Same-game parlays let you combine multiple outcomes from a single game. This can include a player’s point total, the spread, and the over/under (among many other options) into one bet slip. DraftKings has established itself as a leading operator for same-game parlays across North America. Its SGP builder is one of the more user-friendly tools available on the platform.

Prop Betting

DraftKings offers one of the largest prop collections among Canadian regulated operators. Player props, game props, and team props are available across the major leagues. NHL prop coverage is a standout for DraftKings, offering a depth of options that few competitors match.

Cash Out

The cash-out feature lets you settle bets before an event ends, either to lock in profit or limit a loss. It works across a broad range of markets, starting with pre-game and live bets. It also applies to future and parlay wagers.

BetVision

A live-streaming feature called BetVision is available specifically for NFL games that you have bets on. Live streaming of major professional sports is uncommon among regulated sportsbooks in Canada, which makes this a legitimate differentiator for football fans.

Market Breadth

The platform covers more than 35 sports, including niche options like the National Lacrosse League, cycling, and darts. Compared to its competitors, DraftKings offers a wider menu of betting markets.

Banking Methods at DraftKings Alberta

Managing money at DraftKings is straightforward, and the platform supports several familiar options for Canadian users.

Deposits

You can deposit using Interac, Visa, Mastercard, PayPal, Discover, and American Express. Most methods carry a $5 minimum deposit, with Visa set at $10. Deposits are free and are processed instantly in most cases.

Withdrawals

Withdrawing from DraftKings is simple. Head to the withdrawal page of your account to submit a request. Your options will largely mirror those you used to deposit, except that credit cards are typically unavailable for payouts. DraftKings processes requests promptly on its end, and in my experience with the platform in Ontario, delays are not common. The operator does not charge withdrawal fees, and you may be required to verify your identity when requesting a payout.

Customer Support at DraftKings Alberta

There are several options to get help if something comes up with your account. Support channels include:

The help center answers most routine questions without requiring direct contact. For anything that requires a human response, live chat is the quickest route given its round-the-clock availability. Email is there as a fallback, though response times can vary depending on query volume.

DraftKings Alberta Responsible Gaming

I found a range of tools on the Ontario app that help bettors manage their activity. These include deposit limits, wagering limits, session time reminders, cooling-off periods, and self-exclusion. Alberta’s regulatory framework also requires all licensed operators to connect to a centralized self-exclusion system, meaning an exclusion made on one platform applies across the regulated market.

The responsible gaming section is accessible directly from the platform. If you need outside support, free and confidential help is available through the Problem Gambling Helpline, which operates 24 hours a day across Canada.

Is DraftKings Worth It in Alberta?

DraftKings brings an outstanding overall package to the Alberta market. The app is among the best-rated in North America, and the sports coverage is genuinely broad. Tools like same-game parlays and the prop betting library give experienced bettors more to work with than most competitors offer. Its track record in Ontario also provides reasonable confidence in platform stability.

The main drawbacks are a dense interface that can overwhelm new bettors, limited live streaming outside the BetVision NFL tool, and reports of account restrictions on consistently winning users. On balance, bettors who want deep markets, a reliable mobile experience, and a sportsbook with legitimate North American credibility should use DraftKings Alberta.
