College football Week 4 odds and analysis

NC State vs. Clemson

College football conference odds continue to shift for the ACC, and this showdown could have a further bearing on the board. NC State is 2-1, coming from behind to pull out a 30-20 win over visiting Louisiana Tech on Saturday. Clemson is 1-1, rebounding from an opening week loss to Georgia with a convincing win over Appalachian State. The Wolfpack have taken two of their last three meetings with the Tigers.

USC vs. Michigan

Since the beginning of the season, USC and Michigan have headed in opposite directions in College Football Playoff odds. The Trojans have been on the rise after a 2-0 start, and the Wolverines took a tumble after a convincing home loss to Texas in Week 2. Michigan is now 2-1, having rebounded with a 28-18 win over Arkansas State. The Wolverines have also announced a shift at QB. Alex Orji will get the start this week in place of Davis Warren. The last meeting of these two programs happened at the 2007 Rose Bowl, a 32-18 win for USC.

Utah vs. Oklahoma State

In its first season in the Big 12, Utah is the favorite to win the conference. As the tight spread for this one indicates, though, Oklahoma State could have something to say about that. The Utes are 3-0, picking up a road win over Utah State last week. The Cowboys are also 3-0 after a convincing victory over Tulsa, with Alan Bowman throwing for 396 yards, five TDs, and one pick. Utes QB Cam Rising is expected to play after suffering a hand injury last time out. The spread for this one has been active throughout the week leading up to gameday.

Tennessee vs. Oklahoma

Tennessee will be in Oklahoma for this SEC showdown. As the over/under indicates, there could be some fireworks in the forecast at Memorial Stadium. Volunteers QB Nico Iamaleava is off to a stellar start and has moved into fifth place in Heisman Trophy odds. Sooners QB Jackson Arnold has thrown for seven TDs and rushed for two more to help lead his club to a 3-0 start.

Vanderbilt at Missouri

Vanderbilt is 2-1 following a 36-32 loss to Georgia State. The club kicked off its season with an overtime win over Virginia Tech, pulling out the upset as a 13.5-point home underdog. Missouri is 3-0 following a 27-21 home win over Boston College. The Tigers have won four straight between these two schools and took last season’s meeting by a score of 38-21.

Arizona State at Texas Tech

Arizona State is 3-0 following a 31-28 road win over Texas State. The Sun Devils opened their campaign with a 48-7 win over Wyoming and followed with a 30-23 win over Mississippi State. Texas Tech is 2-1 following a 66-21 win over North Texas. Behren Morton threw for four TDs and rushed for another as part of the offensive explosion.

TCU at SMU

TCU dropped a 35-34 decision to visiting UCF in Week 3 to bring its record to 2-1. Sophomore signal caller Josh Hoover is off to a solid start, throwing for 1,022 yards and eight TDs thus far. SMU is also 2-1, losing to BYU 18-15 last time out. The Horned Frogs have taken the last two over the Mustangs: 42-34 in 2022 and 34-17 last season.

Cal at Florida State

Cal is off to a 3-0 start. On Saturday, the Golden Bears picked up a 31-10 win over visiting San Diego State. The struggles continue for Florida State. The club is now 0-3 after a 20-12 loss at home to Memphis. The Seminoles were ranked 10th in the preseason AP Top 25 poll but have since plummeted out of the College Football Playoff picture.

Baylor at Colorado

It’s a primetime showdown for a pair of 2-1 Big 12 programs. Baylor picked up a 31-3 win over Air Force last week, and Colorado took down Colorado State, 28-9. Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter connected for two touchdowns in the winning effort. This will be the first meeting of the schools since 2010, a 31-25 win for Baylor.
