College football Week 2 odds and analysis

Texas vs. Michigan

Texas kicked off the season with a dominant 52-0 win over visiting Colorado State. Heisman candidate Quinn Ewers threw for 260 yards, three TDs, and one pick in the rout. The competition level increases this week as the Longhorns will be on the road to take on Michigan, the defending national champion. The Wolverines opened with a 30-10 home victory over Fresno State. This will be only the second meeting ever between these two storied programs. The Longhorns took the first one, 38-37, at the 2005 Rose Bowl.

Iowa State vs. Iowa

One of college football’s top intra-state rivalries continues in Week 2. The Hawkeyes hold a 47-23 advantage in the all-time series and won last year’s edition, 20-13. Iowa also holds a decisive edge in recent times, having won seven of the last eight over Iowa State. Three of the last four meetings have been decided by seven points or fewer. Iowa notched a 40-0 victory at home over Illinois State in Week 1, and Iowa State took down visiting North Dakota, 21-3.

Tennessee vs. NC State

Tennessee opened its campaign with a 69-3 home win over Chattanooga. Nico Iamaleava threw for 314 yards and three TDs in the victory. NC State had a slightly tougher time, picking up a 38-21 home win over Western Carolina. Jordan Waters led the charge out of the backfield, rushing for 123 yards and two touchdowns. This will be the first meeting of the two programs since 2012, a 35-21 victory for the Volunteers.

Colorado vs. Nebraska

Colorado has rejoined the Big 12 this season after the latest round of college football realignment. The long-running rivalry with Nebraska continued last season, with the Buffaloes picking up a 36-14 home win. The Cornhuskers are the hosts this time, as they look to build on their 49-21-2 all-time series lead. Colorado escaped with a 31-26 home win over North Dakota State in Week 1, with Travis Hunter hauling in seven receptions for 132 yards and three TDs. Nebraska defeated visiting UTEP by a score of 40-7.

Northern Illinois vs. Notre Dame

Northern Illinois opened the season with a 54-15 home victory over Western Illinois. The Huskies now head to Notre Dame as heavy underdogs. The Fighting Irish kicked off their campaign with a 23-13 road win over Texas A&M, pulling out a slight upset as 2.5-point underdogs. Jeremiyah Love paced the backfield with 14 carries for 91 yards and a touchdown.

South Florida vs. Alabama

South Florida opened its season with a 48-3 win over visiting Bethune-Cookman. Kelley Joiner was among the top performers, rushing for 78 yards and a pair of TDs. The Bulls are heavy road dogs for this trip to Alabama. The Crimson Tide began the campaign with a 63-0 win over visiting Western Kentucky. Jalen Milroe threw for 200 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for another two TDs.

Boise State vs. Oregon

Boise State escaped with a 56-45 road win over Georgia Southern in its opener. Ashton Jeanty turned some heads, rushing for 267 yards and six TDs. Oregon had a tougher-than-expected time in its opening matchup, pulling out a 24-14 home win over Idaho. Dillon Gabriel threw for 380 yards and two TDs in the winning effort.

Middle Tennessee vs. Ole Miss

Ole Miss kicked off its season with a 76-0 destruction of visiting Furman, easily covering as a 45.5-point favorite. Jaxson Dart bolstered his Heisman Trophy case, throwing for 418 yards and five touchdowns in the rout. The Rebels are huge favorites once again as they get set to host Middle Tennessee. The Blue Raiders have also gotten off to a 1-0 start, notching a 32-35 home win over Tennessee Tech last week.

Western Michigan vs. Ohio State

Ohio State was a massive 48.5-point favorite over visiting Akron last week. The Buckeyes missed the cover but picked up an easy 52-6 win. Will Howard threw for 228 yards and three TDs in his debut with his new team. Western Michigan opened its campaign with a 28-14 road loss to Wisconsin, covering the spread as a 24.5-point underdog.

Bowling Green vs. Penn State

Penn State opened with a 34-12 road win over West Virginia, easily covering as a -7.5 favorite. Drew Allar threw for three touchdowns, two of which were hauled in by Harrison Wallace III. The Nittany Lions are now heavy home favorites as they get set to welcome Bowling Green. The Falcons kicked off their campaign with a 41-17 home win over Fordham.
