The New York Jets will host an AFC East rival when the Buffalo Bills visit for a Monday Night Football matchup to close Week 6 action. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:15 p.m. ET at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, with ESPN on the broadcast.
Prior to the season, the Jets opened as short favorites in this matchup. The Bills had shifted to 2.5-point favorites after the Jets lost to the Vikings in London during Week 5. The Jets then fired head coach Robert Saleh, naming defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich as interim coach, and the number has started to move to Jets +2 or shorter in NFL Week 6 odds.
The Bills’ passing attack has struggled badly in consecutive games, with top receiver Khalil Shakir (ankle) injured. Josh Allen came into Week 4 as the MVP favorite, then went 25-for-59 (42.4%) for 311 passing yards and one touchdown in losses to the Ravens and Texans. Allen also appeared to suffer a concussion at Houston but remained in the game and is not in the league’s concussion protocol.

Jets slight underdogs in first game following Robert Saleh’s dismissal
How New York could cover the spread or win
Teams often receive a short-term boost when they fire a relatively unpopular head coach. Saleh did not seem to help the Jets much in terms of schematic adjustments, and now the defensive coordinator is in charge of the entire game plan, which could bolster a team that is stronger on the defensive side of the ball.
This offense still belongs to Aaron Rodgers, but Ulbrich could encourage more balance by sticking with the run and incorporating Breece Hall more often. Buffalo’s defense is struggling and ravaged by injuries, as excellent cornerback Taron Johnson, safety Taylor Rapp, and defensive tackle Ed Oliver missed Week 5, and linebacker Matt Milano (pec) remains out indefinitely.
The New York Jets were sharp in their first primetime game at home this season, with Rodgers roasting the overmatched Patriots in a 24-3 win. Coming off consecutive frustrating losses, they could be primed for another solid performance in front of a raucous crowd on Monday Night Football.
How Buffalo could cover the spread and win
The Buffalo Bills are likely to get some good injury news this week, including the possible return of Shakir from his ankle injury. This is a huge divisional game for a team that has won four straight AFC East titles, and Josh Allen is 20-5 against his division since 2020. Allen’s Bills have taken two of their last three against the Jets despite an influx of talent for New York’s defense.
The Jets also have injuries to monitor. C.J. Mosley (toe) hasn’t played since Week 2, and tackle Morgan Moses (knee) was out last week, as Rodgers took a hard hit and reportedly suffered a low-ankle sprain. The Bills’ rushing attack has been strong since midseason last year under offensive coordinator Joe Brady.
At the end of the day, Allen is the best player on the field and a tough competitor who could prevent his team from losing a third straight game.
