The College Football Playoff picture continues to evolve after another eventful weekend.

In the latest College Football Playoff odds, Ohio State is in the top spot. Texas has moved into second place following some upsets that impacted the board.

As we get ready for college football Week 7 action, here’s a detailed look at the current state of the CFP chase.

CFP bracket projection

With the expanded CFP format in effect, the five highest-ranked conference champions will receive automatic berths. The next seven highest-ranked clubs will take the remaining slots. Here’s how the seeds would currently look based on the latest college football odds.

Ohio State takes over as the top seed in this week’s projected bracket, followed by Texas. Miami, the ACC favorite, and Iowa State, now favored to win the Big 12 in college football conference odds, would land seeds three and four based on the lines.

Oregon has moved into the fifth spot ahead of a weekend showdown with Ohio State. Alabama has tumbled from being the favorite to the sixth slot after an upset loss to Vanderbilt on Saturday.

Georgia and Penn State have both moved up a notch, with Tennessee falling out of this week’s bracket after losing to Arkansas. Notre Dame and Clemson are new arrivals, with Ole Miss and Boise State holding steady.

At BetMGM Sportsbook, Georgia (17.9%) has edged ahead of Ohio State (17.6%) in betting handle to win the national title, followed by Texas (11.6%).

Potential CFP first-round matchups

When the seeds are officially set, the winners of the Power Four conferences — the ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, and SEC — are expected to receive the first-round byes. The next eight seeds will play in first-round action. If the seeding and current odds ended up aligning, the opening matchups would look like this:

For this week’s projection, the stranglehold of Big Ten and SEC teams has loosened. Last week, the two power conferences accounted for seven of the eight first-round teams.

They’re still well represented, with three SEC teams and two Big Ten squads helping to fill out the bracket. Independent Notre Dame and the ACC’s Clemson have moved into the mix.

Boise State remains the favorite among Group of Five programs and also leads the way in Mountain West betting odds. Liberty, the favorite to win Conference USA, is 21st on the CFP odds boards at +400.

The odds and projected seeds make for a solid way to project how the College Football Playoff bracket might shake out. However, the CFP selection committee rankings still serve as the final word, with the first edition due on Nov. 5.

College Football Playoff bubble teams

Last week, Notre Dame and Clemson were the first two bubble teams on the outside looking in at the projected bracket. The Fighting Irish and the Tigers are now ninth and 11th, respectively.

The teams that have moved out are Tennessee (+100) and Missouri (+400). The Volunteers are just outside of the bracket following their first loss of the season, while the Tigers have taken a tumble after a convincing defeat at Texas A&M

The Aggies (+120) are now 5-1 and have climbed up the board after the victory. Other squads that are slightly off the pace include SMU (+225), LSU (+230), and Utah (+240).

Upcoming games that could impact the CFP race

The season continues to heat up in Week 7, with three matchups of ranked teams on the docket:

The Sooners are well off the pace in odds to make the CFP at +1200. However, an upset victory over the Longhorns could certainly lead to a spike in their line.

The Buckeyes and Ducks are one-two in odds to win the Big Ten. The winner will likely take over as the presumptive favorite and further solidify its CFP standing.

The Rebels hold down the 10th seed based on the odds, with the Tigers on the bubble. A win for LSU could lead to a flip-flop, while Ole Miss can remain in the mix with a victory.
