The Heisman Trophy race has taken another twist following a wild Saturday of college football action.
Entering the weekend, Quinn Ewers was the betting favorite to win the award. However, the Texas quarterback had to exit early with an injury during a rout of UTSA.
Ewers’ odds have tumbled to +2200, leaving him eighth in the latest Heisman Trophy odds. The new leader is quarterback Cameron Ward (+600), who is off to a sizzling start for the 3-0 Miami Hurricanes.
Ewers’ Heisman odds take a hit after injury
Ewers was at +650 to win the award as Texas prepared to welcome UTSA. The Longhorns burst out of the gate in the first quarter to take a 14-0 lead behind a pair of TD passes from Ewers.
In the second quarter, Ewers suffered a strained abdomen and left the game. Arch Manning came on in relief and opened plenty of eyes.
Manning racked up five total touchdowns as Texas won a 56-7 laugher, easily covering as 36.5-point favorites. Ewers is considered week to week for now, though he could miss Saturday’s home game against UL Monroe.
The odds for Ewers have dipped to +2200 at college football sportsbooks. Meanwhile, Manning was well down the Heisman odds chart at +10000 before the game, and he’s now at +1600 at BetMGM Sportsbook to take the award.
