College football Week 8 futures report

The race for the College Football Playoff ramped up this week. Georgia and Michigan remain in the top two spots in the latest odds, but the two teams are jockeying for the overall lead. Florida State has moved into third, while Washington is up to fourth following a big win over Oregon.

Penn State and Ohio State are next up, and the two squads just happen to meet this Saturday. Lurking behind the top six teams are Oklahoma, Alabama, and Texas. Further movement is certainly possible as this week’s games play out. We’ll gain further insight soon as the first batch of CFP rankings will come out on Tuesday, Oct. 31.

The Heisman Trophy chase has a new favorite. Washington QB Michael Penix Jr. has moved to the top of the odds board, and there’s a substantial gap between him and the second spot. The Huskies are 6-0 following a thrilling win over Oregon. Penix Jr. has been outstanding, throwing for 2,301 yards and 20 TDs.

The race for second place in odds is competitive. Oklahoma QB Dillon Gabriel and Michigan QB JJ McCarthy are the next names on the board, followed by Florida State QB Jordan Travis and LSU’s Jayden Daniels. Last year’s winner, USC QB Caleb Williams, has fallen behind the leaders after the Trojans lost to Notre Dame to drop to 6-1.
