NFL Week 5 betting matchups and best odds

Houston Texans at Atlanta Falcons

Sunday, 1 p.m. ET

The Houston Texans pulled off an upset win at home against the Steelers on Sunday, improving to 2-2 on the season with the 30-6 victory. Rookie QB C.J. Stroud threw for 306 yards and two TDs in the win. WR Nico Collins had a huge day, with seven catches for 168 yards and two touchdowns. Stroud has rocketed up the board for Offensive Rookie of the Year odds. Houston is dealing with some injuries on the offensive line, as C Michael Deiter missed Sunday’s game with a chest injury. G Kendrick Green is hopeful for a Week 5 return. The line here saw some major movement after the Texans’ win, and Houston was briefly the favorite in the matchup after being a +3 underdog prior to Sunday’s game.

The Atlanta Falcons lost their second straight game on Sunday, dropping to 2-2 after a 23-7 defeat in London against the Jaguars. QB Desmond Ridder threw two interceptions with one TD and 191 passing yards. RB Bijan Robinson had another strong performance, running for 105 yards on 14 carries, for an average of 7.5 yards per run, plus another 32 yards receiving. DB Dee Alford was evaluated for a concussion, and his status for Week 5 is unclear.

Carolina Panthers at Detroit Lions

Sunday, 1 p.m. ET

The Carolina Panthers fell to 0-4 on Sunday with a 21-13 home loss against the Vikings. Bryce Young threw for 204 yards, but the only Panthers touchdown on the day came via a 99-yard interception return by DB Sam Franklin Jr. early in the game. Young was sacked five times in the loss, and the Panthers were held to 3.5 yards per play. CB Donte Jackson is questionable for Week 5 with a shoulder injury, and WR Jonathan Mingo is questionable with a concussion. The line opened with Detroit at -5, but with the Panthers’ bad start and the Lions getting the extra rest coming off a Thursday Night Football win, it has crept up considerably.

The Detroit Lions improved to 3-1 with a one-sided win on the road against the Packers on Thursday night. QB Jared Goff threw for 210 yards with one TD and one interception. RB David Montgomery was questionable up until game day, but he suited up and ran for 121 yards on 32 carries. CB Brian Branch left the game with an ankle injury and is questionable for Week 5, but X-rays are negative and the injury doesn’t appear serious. LT Taylor Decker struggled with an ankle injury, but the team is hopeful that the extra days to recover will keep him in the lineup for Sunday. WR Jameson Williams has returned to practice and is eligible to return after missing the start of the season due to a suspension.

Tennessee Titans at Indianapolis Colts

Sunday, 1 p.m. ET

The Tennessee Titans rebounded from a one-sided loss to beat the Bengals at home on Sunday, 27-3. RB Derrick Henry ran for 122 yards and one TD while throwing for another, as the Titans broke out for 21 points in the second quarter. TE Josh Whyle caught two passes, including a TD, but he left the game with an ankle injury and did not return. He’s questionable for Week 5.

The Indianapolis Colts couldn’t complete the comeback and fell to 2-2 on the season with a 29-23 overtime loss on Sunday. Rookie QB Anthony Richardson returned to action with a solid performance, throwing for two touchdowns and running for another while finishing with 200 yards passing and no interceptions. The Colts scored 23 unanswered points in the second half to tie it but lost in overtime. CB Dallis Flowers aggravated an existing ankle injury in the loss and is questionable for Week 5.

New York Giants at Miami Dolphins

Sunday, 1 p.m. ET

The New York Giants fell to 1-3 with a blowout loss to Seahawks at home on Monday night, 24-3. Daniel Jones threw two interceptions, and the Giants gave up 11 sacks in the game while committing three turnovers. C John Michael Schmitz, TE Daniel Bellinger, and G Shane Lemieux all left the game early with injuries and did not return. All three are questionable for Week 5. RB Saquon Barkley has been ruled out for this game while he continues dealing with the ankle issue that’s sidelined him for three consecutive games now.

The Miami Dolphins suffered their first defeat of the season Sunday on the road against the Bills, losing 48-20. Tua Tagovailoa threw for 282 yards with one TD and one interception, while De’Von Achane ran for 101 yards and two touchdowns. But the Miami defense couldn’t slow down an effective Bills offense that totaled 414 yards in the game. T Terron Armstead left the game with a knee injury and has since been ruled out for Week 5. This line originally opened with Miami at -4.5, but with the Giants’ struggles and the Dolphins’ offensive explosions in early games, it has consistently nudged up since then.

New Orleans Saints at New England Patriots

Sunday, 1 p.m. ET

The New Orleans Saints dropped to 2-2 after a home loss to the Buccaneers on Sunday, 26-9. QB Derek Carr started the game despite being questionable all week with a shoulder injury but struggled, finishing with 127 passing yards and 23 completions on 37 attempts. Carr was sacked three times, and the Saints did not score a touchdown. WR Juwan Johnson left the game with a calf injury and did not return. G Andrus Peat suffered a concussion. Both are questionable for Week 5.

The New England Patriots lost 38-3 on the road against the Cowboys on Sunday, falling to 1-3 on the season. Mac Jones was picked off twice, one of which went for a touchdown, before being benched for backup Bailey Zappe. The Patriots managed just 53 yards with three turnovers. Rookie CB Christian Gonzalez, the team’s top draft pick, has suffered a torn labrum and may miss the remainder of the season. The team swapped draft picks with the Chargers to bring back CB J.C. Jackson. Top pass rusher Matt Judon is set for surgery to repair a torn biceps and will also miss extensive time.

Baltimore Ravens at Pittsburgh Steelers

Sunday, 1 p.m. ET

The Baltimore Ravens hammered the Browns 28-3 on the road on Sunday, moving to 3-1 on the season. QB Lamar Jackson had his best game so far this year, throwing for two touchdowns and running for two more. The Baltimore defense held Cleveland to fewer than 100 yards in both running and passing, while also logging three interceptions. RT Morgan Moses left the game with a shoulder injury and is questionable for Week 5. CB Jalyn Armour-Davis also left the game and is questionable.

The Pittsburgh Steelers fell to 2-2 with a 30-6 road loss against the Texans on Sunday. QB Kenny Pickett left with a knee injury and had to be replaced by Mitch Trubisky, who ended three-of-five with 18 passing yards. Pickett is thought to have a bone bruise in his knee, but Pickett has said he’s “good to go” for Week 5. TE Pat Freiermouth and T Dan Moore Jr. also left this game hurt and are both questionable this week.

Philadelphia Eagles at Los Angeles Rams

Sunday, 4:05 p.m. ET

The Philadelphia Eagles stayed undefeated with a 34-31 overtime win at home over the Commanders on Sunday. Jalen Hurts threw for 319 yards and two TDs, while also running the ball nine times for 34 yards. WR A.J. Brown had a big game, securing both touchdown receptions and finishing the day with 175 yards receiving. G Cam Jurgens came into this game with a foot injury but left and did not return. His status for Week 5 isn’t clear yet. The team has signed free agent CB Bradley Roby.

The Los Angeles Rams moved to 2-2 with a Week 4 win over the Colts on the road in overtime, 29-23. Matthew Stafford finished with 319 yards and one TD with one interception. WR Puka Nacua had another big game, hauling in nine receptions for 163 yards and the game-winning TD in overtime. The Rams nearly blew a 23-point lead, as the Colts scored 15 points in the fourth quarter to tie it. Stafford dealt with a hip issue in this one and is questionable for Week 5. RB Kyren Williams is dealing with a hip contusion, while TE Tyler Higbee has an injured thumb.

Cincinnati Bengals at Arizona Cardinals

Sunday, 4:05 p.m. ET

The Cincinnati Bengals fell to 1-3 on the season with a 27-3 loss on the road against the Titans on Sunday. Joe Burrow went 20-of-30 passing for a total of 165 yards through the air. Cincinnati didn’t score a point in the final three quarters, and the offense was 2-of-9 on third downs, while the defense surrendered 173 yards on the ground. WR Tee Higgins left the game with a rib injury, which is now thought to be a fracture that could keep him out of this game. The line opened with the Bengals as -7.5 favorites, but the injuries and the team’s slow start — and Arizona’s strong showings even in defeat so far — have since narrowed that line.

The Arizona Cardinals slipped to 1-3 with a road loss at the 49ers on Sunday, 35-16. Joshua Dobbs threw for two TDs and 265 yards through the air, plus 48 rushing yards on 12 carries. Arizona didn’t turn the ball over but got outscored 14-6 in the second half. CB Kris Boyd came in with a hip issue and left the game to have the hip tended to. His status for Week 5 is unclear. RB Marlon Mack went on injured reserve on Sunday.

New York Jets at Denver Broncos

Sunday, 4:25 p.m. ET

The New York Jets battled back to make it closer than expected but lost 23-20 at home against the Chiefs on Sunday night, falling to 1-3 on the season. QB Zach Wilson was having his best day since taking over for the injured Aaron Rodgers in Week 1, throwing for 245 yards and two TDs, but his costly fumble in the fourth quarter ended New York’s comeback hopes. RB Breece Hall continues to look like the featured back for the Jets, gaining 56 yards on six carries, compared to Dalvin Cook’s 16 yards on five carries. CB Brandin Echols left the game with a hamstring issue and is questionable for Week 5.

The Denver Broncos got their first victory of the season in a battle of winless teams on Sunday, beating the Bears 31-28 on the road. After falling behind early, the Broncos scored 17 points in the fourth quarter to complete the comeback, as QB Russell Wilson threw for 223 yards and three TDs. RB Javonte Williams left the game with a hip injury after logging only two carries and did not return, but the injury isn’t thought to be serious. Both LB Frank Clark and S Justin Simmons missed Sunday’s game with hip injuries and are questionable this week. The Broncos are expected to release DE Randy Gregory, who signed a five-year, $70 million contract in 2022.

Kansas City Chiefs at Minnesota Vikings

Sunday, 4:25 p.m. ET

The Kansas City Chiefs beat the Jets 23-20 on Sunday night to improve to 3-1 on the season. RB Isiah Pacheco logged 115 yards rushing on 20 carries. LB Cole Christiansen left the game with a hamstring injury and did not return. He’s questionable for Week 5.

The San Francisco 49ers stayed undefeated with a 35-16 home win against the Cardinals on Sunday. Brock Purdy threw for 283 yards with one TD, while RB Christian McCaffrey ran for three TDs and 106 yards, with another 71 yards and one touchdown receiving. C Jon Feliciano suffered a concussion and is questionable for Week 5. WRs Deebo Samuel and Jauan Jennings are day-to-day, as is RB Elijah Mitchell.

Green Bay Packers at Las Vegas Raiders

Monday Night Football, 8:15 p.m. ET

The Green Bay Packers fell to 2-2 with a 34-20 loss at home against the Lions on Thursday night. QB Jordan Love threw two interceptions along with one touchdown, and the running game totaled just 27 yards in the game. The Las Vegas Raiders fell to 1-3 with a 24-17 road loss against the Chargers on Sunday. With Jimmy Garoppolo out with a concussion, rookie QB Aidan OConnell got the start, throwing for 238 yards and one interception. The Raiders allowed seven sacks and coughed up three turnovers in the loss. WR Davante Adams dealt with shoulder issues in the game but isn’t expected to miss much time, if any.
