Former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou gets back into MMA action for the first time in nearly three years this Saturday, taking on PFL super belt winner Renan Ferreira in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Oct. 19.
Ngannou is a -245 favorite in the fight, despite coming off a brutal knockout loss in a boxing match against Anthony Joshua earlier this year. Ferreira opened as a huge underdog, but that line has narrowed to +200.

Ngannou vs. Ferreira analysis
Ngannou built his reputation in MMA on a string of early knockouts. On his way to the UFC heavyweight title, he won four straight fights via first-round knockout, with none lasting longer than 90 seconds. He captured the belt with a second-round KO of then-champion Stipe Miocic, then defended it with a unanimous decision win over Ciryl Gane before exiting the UFC to pursue a boxing career.
Ngannou has lost his only two pro boxing matches so far, but he dropped former champ Tyson Fury en route to a narrow split-decision loss. His second-round knockout to Joshua in March was completely one-sided, but Ngannou insists he’s healthy enough to return to action in MMA for the PFL.
Ferreira has been on a tear in the PFL, with four straight knockout wins. He last fought in February, defeating former two-division champ Ryan Bader with a 21-second knockout in Saudi Arabia. At six-foot-eight, Ferreira will be the bigger fighter here. Ngannou has typically had that distinction in his MMA bouts, though he didn’t seem to struggle with the height and range difference against Fury.
One of the biggest questions for Ngannou is his current readiness to fight. He hasn’t competed in MMA since he defeated Gane essentially on one leg in January of 2022. He took the next year off to wait out his UFC contract and recover from knee surgery. Now he’s coming off the only knockout loss of his career, and doing so only six months after the death of his 15-month-old son.
Ngannou turned 38 last month, so there may be some concerns about overall rust and preparedness for this fight. Still, his one-punch power is a true game-changer. Even glancing blows from Ngannou have been known to shut opponents down, and Ferreria has yet to face a heavyweight with that kind of power.
