Other ways to bet on Sunday Night Football
In addition to the above, there are other ways to get in on the Sunday Night Football action throughout the season. Here are some popular options from our NFL betting guide:
- Same-game parlays: These bets let you take your chances at even greater returns. For same-game parlays, you add multiple picks to the same slip, such as a spread plus a total and a prop, with the odds based on your choices. If all of your picks are correct, you win, but a single wrong pick means the whole parlay loses.
- In-play betting: Once Sunday Night Football kicks off, the football betting doesn’t have to stop. Live betting means you can bet right along as the action plays out on the field. The odds and lines will shift frequently and quickly, with plenty of options throughout the game. This includes new spreads, totals, props, and more.
- Alternate lines: You can go beyond the main spreads and totals to find numbers that you’re more comfortable with. There will be a host of alternate lines, ranging from an extra half-point to 10+, all of which will influence the odds based on how much risk or safety you’re adding by moving the line.
In addition to betting on SNF by itself, you can also use the game as part of multi-leg parlays for the NFL week. For example, you could use SNF as the capper for the full Sunday slate of games, or try your luck with tying together the results of Thursday Night Football and Monday Night Football.
Sunday Night Football history/trends
Sunday Night Football first became a regular part of the NFL schedule in 1987. The broadcast window was initially reserved for later in the season before becoming a permanent weekly fixture. ESPN provided coverage from 1987-2005, with TNT sharing duties from 1990-97.
NBC took over the broadcast in 2006 and remains the exclusive home for Sunday Night Football. The SNF time slot has become the marquee game of the week. The schedule provides the flexibility to change games in the latter part of the season in the event that an originally scheduled game becomes less interesting.
Since 2006, all 32 teams have played on SNF. The Dallas Cowboys lead the way in appearances over that time frame with 58, while the Jacksonville Jaguars are last with just two. A handful of clubs have a strong track record when playing in this time slot:
- Buffalo Bills: 9-2, .818
- New Orleans Saints: 17-6, .739
- Seattle Seahawks: 14-9-1, .604
For some other clubs, the bright SNF lights have been much tougher to handle:
- Cincinnati Bengals: 1-10, .091
- Miami Dolphins: 2-6, .250
- Carolina Panthers: 2-6, .250
There were 18 Sunday Night Football games last season. Here’s how the betting results shook out for those games:
- Moneyline: Favorites 11-7
- Spreads: Favorites 12-6
- Totals: Over 5-13
- Home/away: Home 8-9
