College football Week 10 futures report
The chase for the College Football Playoff is entering the stretch run. The first edition of this season’s CFP rankings came out this week. Ohio State was first, followed by Georgia, Michigan, and Florida State. Meanwhile, in the latest odds to win the national championship, Michigan and Georgia are battling for the top spot on the board.
The top four teams in the CFP poll and national title odds align, albeit in a slightly different order. Time is running short for other squads to make their move. According to the latest odds, there are four clubs within striking distance: Oregon, Alabama, Texas, and Washington. We’ll gain additional clarity on the race following this week’s games.
Washington QB Michael Penix Jr. remains the favorite in Heisman Trophy odds by a slight margin over Michigan QB JJ McCarthy. Penix Jr. leads the nation with 2,945 passing yards. He has thrown for 24 TDs for the 8-0 Huskies. McCarthy’s stats aren’t as prolific for the 8-0 Wolverines — 1,799 yards and 18 TDs — but he’s second in passer rating at 199.1.
First in that metric at 204.3 is LSU QB Jayden Daniels, who currently holds down third place in Heisman odds. Rounding out the top five are Oregon QB Bo Nix and Florida State QB Jordan Travis. All five will be in action this week with a chance to further build their case to take the trophy home.
