Canada enters the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a rare opportunity to make history on home soil. After returning to the tournament in 2022 for the first time in more than three decades, this Canadian squad now arrives with higher expectations, greater experience, and one of the most exciting generations the program has produced.
World Cup betting sites still view Canada as an underdog compared to the traditional powers, but playing as a co-host could give the team a significant boost throughout the tournament. Canada opens Group B against Bosnia and Herzegovina, Qatar, and Switzerland, with every point likely to matter in what looks like a tightly contested group.
Ranked 30th in the FIFA World Rankings, Canada will be hoping to prove it belongs on the world stage and push beyond the group phase for the first time.

Canada’s Path to 2026 World Cup Final
Canada has arguably been placed in a tougher group than either of their co-hosts, Mexico and the United States. While I expect Canada to beat Qatar, games against Bosnia and Herzegovina and their final Group game against Switzerland will be much more difficult.
However, with all three Group games being played on home soil, this could swing things in Canada’s favor. I’m predicting Canada to finish in at least third spot, which could be enough to qualify for the Knockout Stages as one of the best-ranked third-placed teams.
If Canada does finish third, they could face either the United States, Turkiye, or Germany in the Round of 32. If they manage to reach the Round of 16, a game against Senegal, Egypt, or South Korea could potentially follow. A Quarter Final against France, Belgium, or Argentina could be next, with a potential Semi Final against Morocco, Brazil, or Spain following on.
It’s much easier to work out Canada’s potential opponents if they finish second in Group B. A Round of 32 fixture against Czechia is on the cards, with a Round of 16 game against Brazil the most likely. If Canada could oust the five-time World Cup winners, a quarterfinal against France is possible, with a semifinal likely to be against Spain.
