As one of the host nations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the United States enters the tournament facing growing expectations from fans at home. While World Cup betting sites do not place the USMNT among the top favorites to win the trophy, there is plenty of optimism surrounding a young roster that now has more international experience than it did in 2022.

The U.S. opens Group D play against Paraguay, Australia, and Türkiye, with advancement to the knockout stage viewed as a realistic target on home soil. Currently ranked 16th in the FIFA World Rankings, the Americans will be aiming to make their deepest World Cup run in more than two decades.

Below, we’ll break down the USA’s betting odds, group-stage schedule, and possible path through the tournament.

USA World Cup Odds 2026

Despite being co-hosts of the event (along with Canada and Mexico), the USMNT is not seen as a global powerhouse or a group with a major chance to win. That being said, the co-hosts do have attractive World Cup odds at the top online sportsbooks for anyone who wants to take a shot that the US can make a run:

United States’ Path To 2026 World Cup Final

While we expect the USA to progress through the Group Stage, whether they finish in first or second is more difficult to predict correctly. If they finish top of Group D, the USA will likely face Senegal or Norway in the Round of 32. Get through that, and a Round of 16 game against Belgium is on the cards. If the United States dispatches the European side, a quarterfinal against World Cup favorites Spain could follow.

A hugely difficult fixture, if the USA do beat Spain, it won’t get any easier with a potential semifinal against France to follow. If the USA does reach the Final, their likely opponents will be Argentina.

If the USA finishes in second spot, they’ll most likely face Egypt in the Round of 32, followed by a Round of 16 game against the defending champs in Argentina. If the USA gets through that game, a quarterfinal against Portugal is most likely, followed by a semifinal against either Brazil or Morocco
