What to watch for in NFL Preseason Week 3
Some teams could continue to play it safe for the final week of the preseason. For example, Joe Burrow has been watching the exhibition games from the sidelines as he recovers from a calf injury. The Bengals are focused on getting him back on the field for Week 1, so it’ll be more of the same this week.
Teams like the Chiefs have already taken a look at the first unit through the first two games, while others have kept many starters under wraps. This week, top stars could see the field, but extended playing time isn’t likely in many spots. Here are some of the situations to keep an eye on.
Carolina Panthers: The club was shut out in its opener against the Jets before losing a close one to the Giants last time out. Bryce Young, the first overall pick at this year’s NFL Draft, has seen limited time thus far, so we’ll see if we get a longer look this week.
Houston Texans: Rookie QB CJ Stroud has had some growing pains in the exhibition season, throwing for 73 yards and a pick thus far. While the team hasn’t officially named him the Week 1 starter, signs are pointing in that direction.
Indianapolis Colts: The Colts have officially named Anthony Richardson as QB1, and the team held him out of action in its second exhibition game. The club has granted Jonathan Taylor’s request to seek a trade.
Jacksonville Jaguars: The Jaguars have looked solid while winning both preseason games and posting a combined 53 points. Head coach Doug Pederson has said that starters are likely to see extensive time this week versus the Dolphins.
Las Vegas Raiders: Not much is expected out of the Raiders this season, but the offense has performed well in two preseason victories while delivering a combined 68 points. Josh Jacobs is looking increasingly likely to end his holdout and report prior to Week 1.
New York Jets: Aaron Rodgers will likely play in the team’s final preseason game versus the Giants on Saturday. The Jets had a busy offseason and recently added Dalvin Cook to the mix.
San Francisco 49ers: Brock Purdy briefly returned to action in last week’s win over the Broncos. Starters could see some additional time on Friday versus the Chargers. The QB room remains crowded, but we could get some clarity on the backup plan soon.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Baker Mayfield has edged out Kyle Trask in the QB battle, as Tampa Bay named him the starter for Week 1. The Buccaneers close out the preseason at home versus the Ravens.

What bets are available for NFL preseason games?
When NFL Week 1 action kicks off, bettors will have a host of betting options to choose from for each game. During the preseason, the menu is much more limited. The top choices are the big three pregame bets: moneylines, spreads, and over/unders.
You can also wager on the individual quarters and halves of each contest, such as a first-quarter total or the second-half spread. Parlays are available for individual or multiple games, while player props generally aren’t available during the preseason.
NFL preseason Week 2 betting recap
