We’re well into the NFL offseason with the NFL Draft fast approaching. Sportsbooks have released odds on the favorites to win each NFL division. We’ll take a look at the best lines available with an analysis of each favorite. Odds may change as each team’s offseason moves take shape.
Some of the favorites are no surprise, such as the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs () being favored to win the division they’ve dominated for years. But other teams, like the Detroit Lions (), have gone from the back of the pack to the favored squad.

Current NFL division winner favorites
AFC West: Kansas City Chiefs
It’s no surprise to see the defending Super Bowl champs open as favorites to win the division they’ve dominated in recent years. The last time anyone other than the Chiefs won the AFC West was all the way back in 2015. The big question is which of the other teams might make things competitive. Currently, the Los Angeles Chargers () and Denver Broncos () are both in the middle of the field in terms of odds, with the Las Vegas Raiders () as the biggest underdog.
AFC North: Cincinnati Bengals
The Bengals have won this division two years running. It helps that they’ll likely return the same core talent that took them to the AFC Championship game last season. Oddsmakers expect the Cleveland Browns () and Baltimore Ravens () to both be in the hunt as well this year, with the Pittsburgh Steelers () on the outside.
AFC South: Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jaguars clinched this division with a win in the final week of the regular season, and went on to surprise some people in the playoffs. Young quarterback Trevor Lawrence seemed to come into his own late in the season, so expectations will be high this year. The Tennessee Titans () and Indianapolis Colts () are both battling it out in the second spot, with the Houston Texans () trailing behind after a dismal last season.
AFC East: Buffalo Bills
The Bills have won this division three years in a row, and are the favorites to do it a fourth time this season. Their exit in the divisional round of the playoffs was a disappointment after how well their regular season went. The team returns a talented bunch with unfinished business in 2023. The New York Jets () and Miami Dolphins () are both also in the hunt after solid performances last season. The New England Patriots (), once the division’s dominant force, are now the hefty underdog of the bunch.
NFC West: San Francisco 49ers
The 49ers won the division last year, and are favorites to repeat in 2023. Injuries at the quarterback position plagued the team late last year, and were their undoing in the playoffs. But the defense was among the best in the league and should be a force again this season. The Seattle Seahawks () and Los Angeles Rams () are expected to slug it out in the second spot. The Arizona Cardinals (), who finished last season in shambles, are the biggest longshot of any team in any division.
NFC North: Detroit Lions
The Lions surged late last season, going from divisional also-ran to the top favorite on the strength of a talented young squad that seemed to finally find its stride. But this is still expected to be a tight race all the way around, with the Minnesota Vikings (), Chicago Bears (), and Green Bay Packers () all in the running.
NFC South: New Orleans Saints
Last year, this was the one NFL division you could win even with a losing record. That’s exactly what the Tampa Bay Buccaneers () did, clinching it with an 8-9 mark while every other team finished an identical 7-10. This year, the Saints are projected to be the squad that makes the biggest leap forward. The Carolina Panthers () and Atlanta Falcons () aren’t far behind, though.
NFC East: Philadelphia Eagles
This was the most competitive division in the league last year, with the Eagles jumping out to a lead and holding onto it despite late injury concerns for QB Jalen Hurts. Philadelphia is the favorite to repeat, but the Dallas Cowboys () are still nipping at their heels. The New York Giants () and Washington Commanders () round out the field, though only New York is expected to be anywhere in the chase.
How to bet on NFL divisional futures
Prior to the NFL season, sportsbooks offer odds on each team to win their division. As teams move through the 2023 NFL Draft and finalize their rosters, those odds are likely to shift somewhat.
Futures markets for divisional winners remain open as the season progresses. But the odds will move a lot as the picture becomes clearer in each division. Injuries throughout the preseason and season can also have a major effect on futures odds.
