Jalen Milroe delivered in one of the marquee matchups of the young college football regular season.
Alabama took down rival Georgia in a high-profile affair on Saturday night. Milroe more than did his part, accounting for four total touchdowns as the Crimson Tide escaped with a win after blowing a late lead.
In the wake of the winning effort, Milroe has moved into first place in Heisman Trophy odds, ahead of Cameron Ward and Travis Hunter.
Milroe soars as Alabama takes down Georgia
At kickoff, Alabama was a +1.5 home dog versus Georgia. The Crimson Tide dominated the early part of the game, getting out to a 28-0 lead in the second quarter.
The Bulldogs stormed back to take a late 34-33 lead. With a little over two minutes to go, Milroe connected with a 75-yard strike to Ryan Williams, which would prove to be the deciding factor in a 41-34 victory.
As has been the case throughout Alabama’s 4-0 start, Milroe was a force under center. He threw for 374 yards, two TDs, and one pick, and also rushed for 117 yards and two touchdowns.
He is the new betting favorite to win the Heisman Trophy at odds +250. Ward, last week’s favorite, has dipped to second place at +600.
Alabama gets back at it this week on the road versus Vanderbilt. Early college football Week 6 odds have the Crimson Tide as a -23.5 favorite for that one.
Ward second, Hunter third in the latest lines
Ward and the Miami Hurricanes remain perfect at 5-0 after escaping with a 38-34 win over Virginia Tech. They entered as 17.5-point home favorites but had to rally back from a 34-24 deficit to exit with the win.
In the final frame, Ward led two lengthy scoring drives, connecting with Cam McCormick and Isaiah Horton for TDs. All told, he finished with 343 passing yards for four touchdowns and a pair of interceptions.
Through five games, Ward is second in the nation with 1,782 passing yards, behind Jaxson Dart (1,815). He has accounted for 20 total TDs to date.
Hunter continues his ascent up the board after another impressive outing and is now in third place at +800. He hauled in nine receptions for 89 yards and a touchdown as Colorado upset UCF 48-21.
He’s the leading receiver for the 4-1 Buffaloes, racking up 46 catches for 561 yards and six TDs. Hunter does double duty on defense, with 16 total tackles, two interceptions, and a forced fumble thus far.
