We have a new favorite in betting odds to win this season’s college football national championship.
Ohio State has moved to the top spot on the board at +350. Preseason title favorite Georgia is now second at +400, followed by Texas at +500.
The trio also holds down the top three spots in the latest AP Top 25 poll, albeit in a different order. Heading into the fifth week of regular season action, the title chase is intensifying, but also very far from being settled.
Undefeated Buckeyes take the lead in national title odds
Ohio State moved to 3-0 with a 49-14 win over visiting Marshall on Saturday, missing the cover as a -38.5 favorite. Will Howard threw for two touchdowns and rushed for another in the winning effort.
Backfield mates Quinshon Judkins and TreVeyon Henderson combined for 249 yards and four TDs on the ground. The Buckeyes are heavy -24.5 favorites on the road Saturday versus Michigan State.
Entering the season, Ohio State was second in national championship odds behind Georgia. After a 3-0 start that has seen the Buckeyes outscore opponents by a combined 157-20, they’ve taken over the top spot on the board.
Bulldogs fall to second in advance of Alabama showdown
Georgia had the weekend off in advance of a huge Week 5 showdown with Alabama. The Bulldogs are 3-0 after a win over Kentucky last time out.
However, remaining undefeated was far from easy as they battled to escape with a 13-12 road win after entering as -21.5 favorites. Georgia kicked off the season with convincing wins over Clemson and Tennessee Tech by a combined score of 82-6.
Alabama is also 3-0 and holds down the fourth spot in national title odds at +800. The Crimson Tide defeated Georgia 27-24 in last season’s SEC championship game.
Top-ranked Longhorns hold down third
Texas held the top spot in the latest AP poll for the second consecutive week, followed by Georgia and Ohio State. The club is 4-0 following a 51-3 win over visiting Louisiana Monroe on Saturday.
Arch Manning got the start in place of the injured Quinn Ewers, throwing for two touchdowns and a pair of picks. Ewers may miss this week’s home game with Mississippi State, as well.
The Longhorns are massive -38.5 favorites for that one. Afterward, it’s a week off followed by the annual Red River Rivalry game versus Oklahoma on Oct. 12.
