Vegas Golden Knights vs. Seattle Kraken

The Vegas Golden Knights come into this game with one of the best records in the league, putting them among the top favorites in Stanley Cup odds again this season. Vegas began the year with a seven-game winning streak but hit an uncharacteristic skid in December following injury struggles for goaltender Adin Hill that began in late November. That transferred the bulk of the net-minding duties to Logan Thompson, who began to show signs of fatigue as the month wore on. Vegas continues to get solid offensive production from centers Jack Eichel and William Karlsson. It also is one of the top teams in the Western Conference in both power play and penalty kill percentages.

The Seattle Kraken struggled out of the gates to start the year after surprising many by coming within one game of the Western Conference finals last season. A seven-game losing streak that stretched from late November to early December highlighted some of the ongoing concerns in goal. With Philipp Grubauer sidelined by injury, Joey Daccord has stepped in as the primary goalie — though Chris Driedger held the Calgary Flames to just one goal for a win in his first NHL game in nearly two years, capping a three-game winning streak for Seattle. The team still struggles in goal production, however, ranking in the bottom five in goals per game. Injuries to forwards Andre Burakovsky and Jaden Schwartz haven’t helped. Additionally, Matty Beniers has experienced a bit of a sophomore slump following his Calder Trophy-winning performance last season.

Since the Kraken joined the league in 2021, they have beaten the Golden Knights just once in nine regular season meetings. The teams last met for the season-opener in Vegas, which the Golden Knights won 4-1.
