Faltering Bills look to get revenge on perplexing Chiefs

The Buffalo Bills and the Kansas City Chiefs () have been two of the NFL’s elite teams for nearly half a decade, but this season has felt decidedly different. The Bills are 6-6 and in danger of missing the playoffs, while the Chiefs’ offense feels stagnant as they sit at 8-4. They now face in Week 14.

The Bills have to get the ball rolling if they want to make it into the postseason, but just two wins in their last six games have made the margin for error as thin as it’s ever been during the Josh Allen era. The situation is similar for the Chiefs. Patrick Mahomes is averaging career lows in yards per attempt (7.1) and passing yards per game (265.2), but the Chiefs are 8-4 and cruising to their eighth straight AFC West crown.

For Bills, avoiding turnovers will likely be key

Despite the feeling around the Bills, Josh Allen is still playing well, averaging decent numbers. Few quarterbacks can sling it like Allen, but his aggression has led to a league-leading 13 interceptions. The Bills’ offense has the sixth-most giveaways in the NFL, which has hampered their ability to consistently score points.

It’s a small sample size, but the Bills are 2-0 when they don’t turn the ball over this season. If Allen is able to keep clear of turnovers, the Buffalo offense could be a problem again.

The Chiefs’ path to victory is likely the Mahomes-Kelce connection

Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce have been the not-so-secret weapons for the Chiefs’ offense for the longest time. One of the main problems the Chiefs face is a lack of receiving talent — the Chiefs have the fourth-most drops in the NFL this season (20) — and the Mahomes-Kelce connection hasn’t been able to make up for the lack of offensive firepower.

Kelce is still averaging seven catches per game this season and has 70 catches for 732 yards and five touchdowns so far, and the Chiefs’ passing game looks at its best when he is on the field. The Chiefs put up 31 points in their Week 12 win against the Las Vegas Raiders, and Kelce caught six passes for 91 yards. The Chiefs are taking on a Bills defense that is struggling with injuries.

Buffalo Bills vs. Kansas City Chiefs injury report: Who’s out, who’s starting

Chiefs’ linebacker Nick Bolton, who has played just four times this season due to a wrist injury, was limited in practice last week and looks to be ramping up his efforts to get back on the field as soon as possible.

The Bills are hopeful that Dawson Knox will be off IR this week and could potentially suit up against the Chiefs.
