NFL MVP favorites and their odds to win

Lamar Jackson, QB, Baltimore Ravens

MVP odds:

Jackson ran away with the MVP during the 2023 season, emerging as the clear consensus. He also very much in the NFL MVP conversation last season. While Jackson is the early favorite on the MVP odds board, expect Allen, Burrow, Mahomes and others to make it picking a winner extremely tough.

Josh Allen, QB, Buffalo Bills

MVP odds:

Allen, the defending NFL MVP, held the top spot on the MVP odds board since a week 11 win over the Kansas City Chiefs that saw him finish the game for 315 combined yards and two total TDs. Allen ended up walking away with the first NFL MVP honor of his career. Time will tell if he has what it take to join the likes of Jackson and Mahomes on the repeat winner list.

Joe Burrow, QB, Cincinnati Bengals

MVP odds:

Burrow is coming off a season in which he won NFL Comeback Player of the Year but his Bengals missed the playoffs. Despite the disappointing team result, Burrow once threw for nearly 5,000 yards, 43 touchdowns, and just 9 interceptions. With numbers like that, it should come as no surprise that the QB is once again among the early MVP favorites.

Patrick Mahomes, QB, Kansas City Chiefs

MVP odds:

Mahomes is coming off a season in which his Chiefs came up one win shy of becoming the first NFL team to win three straight Lombardi trophies. There is no reason to think this former MVP will be taking a step back next season, as Kansas City has won five out of the last six AFC championships. Mahomes is only one of six players to have won the NFL MVP award three or more times since its inception.

Players with long shot odds to win NFL MVP

The last non-QB winner of the NFL MVP award was Adrian Peterson in 2012. Last season, Eagles RB Saquon Barkley was among the potential candidates late in the season. At the initial release of 2025 NFL MVP betting odds, Barkley is at Joe Burrow +650 on DraftKings. Also on the odds board are Bengals QB Joe Burrow Joe Burrow +650 on DraftKings and Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes Joe Burrow +650 on DraftKings.

Besides Barkley, among the top non-QB long shots in the MVP race for next season are Lions RB Jahmyr Gibbs Joe Burrow +650 on DraftKings and Ravens RB Derrick Henry Derrick Henry +10000 on FanDuel.

NFL MVP betting line moves

Once the regular season gets underway later this year, we will closely monitor NFL betting line moves. When odds opened for the 2025-26 NFL MVP race, Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, and Joe Burrow were the early favorites. Heading into the 2024 season, Patrick Mahomoes, Allen and Burrow were the favorites, and Allen emerged as the winner late in the year. This year, Jayden Daniels has jumped up the odds board on the strength of his Offensive Rookie of the Year performance that played a significant role in the Washington Commanders advancing to the NFC Championship Game. Super Bowl 59 MVP Jalen Hurts is another player to watch as the Eagles are expected to once again be legitimate contenders.

FAQ

What is the official name of the MVP award?

The Associated Press NFL Most Valuable Player Award has been an annual accolade since 1957. While there are other honors handed out at the conclusion of the season, this is the only MVP award that’s officially sanctioned by the NFL.

How is the NFL MVP award decided?

A panel of 50 sportswriters votes on the NFL MVP at the conclusion of the regular season. The writers make a single selection each, with each vote equaling one point. The player with the most votes/points wins the award.

Has there ever been a unanimous NFL MVP?

Yes, this has happened twice. Tom Brady received 50 out of 50 votes while winning his second MVP award with the New England Patriots in 2010. Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens was a unanimous pick in 2019 and came one vote short of being the unanimous pick when he won the award again in 2023.

How many players have won multiple NFL MVP awards?

Eleven NFL players have been multiple-time MVPs. Peyton Manning has won the most with five, followed by Aaron Rodgers with four. Jim Brown is among the four players who have won three each, and he is also the only non-QB to win multiple times. Lamar Jackson is the most recent player to join the list, winning his second MVP for the 2023 season.

Who was the last player to win consecutive NFL MVP awards?

Aaron Rodgers in 2020 and 2021. Prior to Rodgers, the last player to turn the trick was Peyton Manning in 2008-09. In the history of the award, just five players have won in consecutive years.
