The UFC makes its return to Brazil for the first pay-per-view event of 2023, and for the second time in as many months it will attempt to crown a new light heavyweight champion to occupy the vacant throne at 205 pounds.
Former champ Glover Teixeira brings a wealth of big-fight experience back to his home country for this title clash, while rising contender Jamahal Hill looks to seize a major opportunity while the division is without a champion.
In the co-headliner, familiar foes Deiveson Figueiredo and Brandon Moreno meet for the fourth time in order to settle their extended battle for the UFC flyweight title. After spending a little over an hour in the cage together over the course of their three previous fights, it’s safe to say they know each other pretty well by this point.
Read on for a look at the betting odds from all the main markets for these two UFC 283 title fights.
UFC 283 Main Event Odds
Glover Teixeira ([metabet_core_dynamic_odds market=”moneyLine-away” query=”531190″ site_id=”legalsportsreport”]) vs. Jamahal Hill ([metabet_core_dynamic_odds market=”moneyLine-home” query=”531190″ site_id=”legalsportsreport”])
In most pro sports, Teixeira’s days of competing at the highest level would be deep in the past. But in the world of MMA, a wily cage veteran of 43 can still teach the youngsters a thing or two, and he’s still a threat to anyone who makes the mistake of taking him lightly.
Even in his athletic prime, Teixeira (33-8 MMA, 16-6 UFC) wasn’t the fastest or the most explosive fighter. What he was and still is, however, is a smart, well-rounded fighter with deceptive punching power and an opportunistic submissions game. Here he’ll also have a passionate crowd on his side, which will really make it feel like a home game in Rio de Janeiro.
By contrast, Hill (11-1 MMA, 5-1 UFC) is less than five years into his pro career. He debuted in the UFC in 2020, has just 13 pro fights to his credit (counting one win in the UFC that was later changed to a no-contest after he tested positive for marijuana), and this will be the first time he’s headlined anything bigger than one of the closed-door UFC Fight Night events.
Hill is tall and rangy, with good speed and a dangerous outside striking game, but he’s also still somewhat inexperienced at this level. He’s got major advantages in categories like quickness and all-around athleticism. The question is whether Teixeira will give him the time and space to use them.
UFC 283 Co-Main Event Odds
Deiveson Figueiredo ([metabet_core_dynamic_odds market=”moneyLine-away” query=”531191″ site_id=”legalsportsreport”]) vs. Brandon Moreno ([metabet_core_dynamic_odds market=”moneyLine-home” query=”531191″ site_id=”legalsportsreport”])
After three fights – one draw, one Moreno victory via submission, one Figueiredo win via decision – both these men ought to know what to expect from each other. Their first meeting, in December 2020, was a wild brawl. The last fight was decided by one point on the scorecards. They’re very close in skill.
The big question here is whether either man will try any major changes in terms of strategy. Figueiredo is known for being overly aggressive at times, which can overwhelm some opponents but also sometimes provides them with unnecessary openings.
Moreno, on the other hand, was forced to make a coaching change when his previous trainer, James Krause, was suspended as part of an ongoing gambling investigation, so that could potentially disrupt his preparation process.
This fight could easily come down once again to the slimmest of margins on the scorecards.
UFC 283 Props and Rounds Betting
In the main event, Teixeira’s best chance is to get in close, fight in the clinch, and probably eventually get the fight to the mat. If he can do that, the long odds on Teixeira via submission become more realistic.
The shorter this fight is, the more it should favor Hill. A long, messy, slog of a fight? That’s territory where Teixeira is a lot more comfortable.
As for the flyweight co-main, there’s a strong chance of these two using all five rounds to sort this out. Only one of their previous meetings ended inside the distance, and that came via third-round submission for Moreno.
