Player props for LSU vs South Carolina
How Garrett Nussmeier could get over 298.5 passing yards
This number is available at FanDuel Sportsbook, but it could soon rise above 300 yards, which you’ll find at most other books using our player prop tool. Nussmeier has been a touchdown machine through two games, and he’s averaging 305 passing yards per game with a 75% completion rate in those starts.
Topping 300 yards in a close game against a ranked opponent (USC) and again in a relatively easy win over FCS opponent Nicholls shows that Nussmeier’s arm could see play regardless of game script. South Carolina’s defense has been elite through two games, and this will be a tough challenge for Nussmeier, but he has three targets in Kyren Lacy, Aaron Anderson, and tight end Mason Taylor who could prove to be tough covers for the Gamecocks.
How Garrett Nussmeier could miss 298.5 passing yards
South Carolina’s defense held Kentucky’s offense to just 44 passing yards last Saturday in a dominant 31-6 win. The Gamecocks have eight returning starters on that side of the ball, and they’re allowing just 4.4 yards per pass through two contests. Clayton White is one of the best defensive coordinators in the SEC, and he’ll likely mix up coverages and blitz schemes using All-American edge rusher Dylan Stewart to try to disrupt Nussemeier’s timing.
The Tigers could once again be missing receivers Kyle Parker and Chris Hilton Jr., and they’ve lost defensive tackle Jacobian Guillory (Achilles) for the season. If LSU’s defense can’t stop the run, South Carolina will likely try to milk the clock and keep Nussmeier and company on the sidelines.
How Raheim Sanders could score an anytime touchdown
The Gamecocks should lean on their powerful lead back to try to slow this contest down and control the clock. Sanders is a powerful 230-pound back with a rushing touchdown in both of South Carolina’s games so far this season.
He’s only averaged 3.8 yards per carry in those contests, but the senior has avoided negative plays with his downhill running style, and he’s operating behind an improved offensive line that includes preseason freshman All-American Josiah Thompson. LSU might have allowed just 69 rushing yards per game so far against USC and Nicholls, but the Tigers gave up a whopping 161 rushing yards per game and 21 rushing touchdowns last season.
How Raheim Sanders could miss an anytime touchdown
While South Carolina wants to establish the run, that doesn’t necessarily mean the Gamecocks will find success in the trenches. LSU has an elite corps of linebackers led by Harold Perkins Jr. and enough depth on the defensive line to overcome the loss of Guillory. Game script is a major concern for those looking to back Sanders, who is projected for 68.5 rushing yards at FanDuel.
If the LSU offense starts hot, South Carolina could be forced into a pass-heavy shootout. And there is a chance Gamecocks quarterback LaNorris Sellers winds up punching in one or two rushing touchdowns. The 6-foot-3, 242-pound freshman punished Old Dominion for 68 rushing yards on 22 carries and scored a touchdown in his season debut.
