UFC Fight Night main event odds
Derrick Lewis [metabet_core_dynamic_odds market=”moneyLine-home” query=”553064″ site_id=”legalsportsreport”] vs. Jailton Almeida [metabet_core_dynamic_odds market=”moneyLine-away” query=”553064″ site_id=”legalsportsreport”]
The 38-year-old Lewis (27-11) is coming off a TKO win in July that extended his record for most knockout wins in UFC history. That victory also snapped a three-fight losing streak, which came as Lewis faced a series of younger heavyweight contenders. Here again Lewis takes on a younger opponent who seems to be on the rise, and the matchup feels like one that the UFC made in the hope that it would showcase the other fighter.
Almeida (19-2) is a big, athletic heavyweight with a dangerous ground game that he can use to either set up submissions or enable his ground-and-pound attack. In a little less than two years with the UFC, he’s finished all five of his fights and has been out of the first round just once. It’s no surprise that oddsmakers like his chances against Lewis, who just this week spent a few hours in jail after being arrested in connection with driving a Lamborghini 136 mph in a 50 mph zone.
Lewis has never been known as a particularly good or enthusiastic grappler even when he’s entirely focused and motivated. Still, he’s got power in both hands that can change any fight, even when he’s technically overmatched. If Almeida can take him down early and keep him there for any length of time, we may see Lewis’ will to fight drain out of him. His best hope may be to catch the younger man with a big punch in the first minutes of the fight, but that’s easier said than done against a fighter who’s been knocked out only once in over 20 pro fights.
UFC Fight Night main event prop bet odds
Lewis’ last eight fights have finished inside the distance, and he hasn’t seen the scorecards in almost four years. None of those decisions came in bouts scheduled for five rounds, as this one is. The bulk of both his wins and his losses have come via TKO/KO. Almeida has only gone the distance once in 21 fights, and it resulted in one of his two professional losses. He won his next 14 fights and only needed more than one round in three of those. Five of Almeida’s last seven wins have been via submission.
