Noche UFC odds for main event
Alexa Grasso vs. Valentina Shevchenko
Total rounds: Over/under
In their first fight back in March, Shevchenko (23-4 MMA, 12-3 UFC) came in as a heavy favorite and dominated the early going with her quick jab and her wrestling ability. Grasso (16-3 MMA, 8-3 UFC) struggled to adjust to the speed and the takedowns but seized her opportunity on a telegraphed spinning back kick by Shevchenko and jumped on the champ’s back, quickly securing her hooks and sinking the choke to force the fourth-round submission.
Now Grasso must defend the title in an immediate rematch, and the question is whether she can pull off a repeat of that one perfect moment. To Grasso’s credit, it wasn’t just a lucky move or an isolated miscue by Shevchenko. Grasso had clearly scouted Shevchenko’s tendencies and was ready to capitalize on the chance when it came — and she only needed the opening to appear once. That’s smart game-planning but also deft execution, and it attacked an area of Shevchenko’s grappling game that’s looked vulnerable in recent fights.
Grasso may still face some difficulty if Shevchenko keeps it simple and relies on speed and strength advantages, but Shevchenko could be more hesitant to wrestle now that she has reason to worry about Grasso’s jujitsu game. The former champ has also shown some diminishing returns of late, and there’s a chance this may just be the beginning of her natural downslope after years on top of the 125-pound division.
Noche UFC prop bet odds
UFC prop bets tend to be related to when and how the fight will end. Grasso has gone to decision in eight of her 11 UFC bouts. Both her UFC wins inside the distance have come via submission. Shevchenko has gone the distance in just three of her eight fights since she first became the UFC flyweight champion. Over the course of her pro career, she has an almost perfectly even split between wins by submission, KO/TKO, and decision.
