Dolphins-Seahawks Line Moves More Than A Touchdown After Tagovailoa Injury

As Tua Tagovailoa deals with another concussion, sportsbooks have made more than a touchdown adjustment in their NFL Week 3 odds based on his expected absence.

The Miami Dolphins quarterback suffered another serious brain injury on Thursday night, and this week’s matchup with the Seattle Seahawks has flipped at NFL sportsbooks.

After starting as one-point favorites in last week’s lookahead lines, the Dolphins were 6.5-point underdogs when sportsbooks released lines on Sunday night.

Thompson will take over for Dolphins at QB

Tagovailoa suffered his third diagnosed concussion at the NFL level in Thursday’s 31-10 loss to Buffalo. He also threw three interceptions in the 31-10 loss.

The former Alabama star reportedly has no plans to retire and is already working with specialists to chart a return to the field.

Backup Skylar Thompson is set to start in Week 3 and beyond until Tagovailoa can return. Thompson completed 8 of 14 passes in relief after Tagovailoa’s injury.

Thompson is 1-2 as a starter for Miami, including some rough numbers (18 for 45, 220 yards, TD, two interceptions) in a 34-31 loss at Buffalo in the 2021-22 playoffs.

A strong preseason convinced Miami’s staff to roster Thompson as Tagovailoa’s backup over Mike White. White is currently on the Bills’ practice squad.

Dolphins on way down in Super Bowl, AFC East futures

Tagovailoa’s injury, combined with a rough showing at home, has moved the Dolphins’ odds to +4000 in the Super Bowl odds futures market after opening at +1500 in the offseason. The Dolphins are +2200 to win the AFC.

Miami is at +600 to win the AFC East in NFL divisional odds after opening the season at +200 and moving to +400 to win its division after Week 1.
