Juggernaut Eagles hit the road to face free-scoring Cowboys
The Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles lock horns in Week 14 prime time on Sunday night as one of the NFL’s most heated rivalries adds another chapter. With both teams eyeing the NFC East and the overall top seed in the conference, the stakes are higher than usual. The Eagles still lead the NFC with a 10-2 record but are looking to bounce back from a 42-19 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. The Cowboys () are 9-3 and have won four straight games, averaging 42 points per game.
The Eagles were the victors when the two teams met back in Week 9 by a score of 28-23. Since then, the Cowboys have transformed themselves into more of an elite offense, while the Eagles won close games against the Kansas City Chiefs and the Buffalo Bills before losing to the 49ers. Both offenses are high-powered, with the over/under sitting at , but the Cowboys’ defense has also been among the best in the NFL.
The Eagles might have to get more from their defense to win
A former strength for the team, the defense currently ranks 27th in expected points added per play and 20th in defensive success rate, per RBSDM, while allowing 24 points per game — the ninth-most in the NFL. In the last five games, the Eagles’ defense has allowed 435 yards of offense and 29.4 points per game. That will likely need to improve as it’s about to take on an offense scoring 32.3 points per game, the most in the NFL this season.
The defensive line is still pressuring and sacking opposing quarterbacks, but it has allowed over 300 yards passing in four of Philadelphia’s last five games, and opposing offenses have converted on 58% of their third-down attempts in the last three games.
The Cowboys’ path to victory likely includes a lot of CeeDee Lamb
The 2023 season has been quite the year for CeeDee Lamb. He has caught 90 passes for 1,182 receiving yards and seven touchdowns through 12 games and is on pace for career highs across the board. He’s been excellent all season, but Lamb’s influence on the offense has been much more noticeable during the last seven games, as he’s caught 63 passes for 824 yards and six touchdowns.
What’s helped Lamb take the next step is how the Cowboys have utilized him. His chemistry with Dak Prescott has been great since day one, and he comfortably leads the team in targets, but he’s traditionally used heavily in the slot. This season, and especially over the last four or five games, Lamb has been lining up on the outside more often. Lamb is the focal point of one of the best offenses in the NFL so far this season, and if anyone can exploit a struggling defense, it is most likely him and Prescott.

Philadelphia Eagles vs. Dallas Cowboys injury report: Who’s out, who’s starting
After failing to return against the 49ers, Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert may be ready to play against the Cowboys on Sunday night. His presence in the offense gives Jalen Hurts another weapon. Shaq Leonard could also be ready after signing with the team on Monday.
Meanwhile, the Cowboys expect to activate tight end Peyton Hendershot off IR this week.
