Resurgent Bengals looking for road upset against injured 49ers
To start the year, the Cincinnati Bengals were 0-2 with a pedestrian offense as quarterback Joe Burrow dealt with a calf injury. Since then, they’re 3-1, including back-to-back wins before their Week 7 bye. In Week 8, they’re on the road against the San Francisco 49ers, who are coming off a Monday Night Football game against the Minnesota Vikings.
Headed into MNF and the start of Week 8, the 49ers were 5-1, with their only loss coming on the road against the Cleveland Browns. San Francisco also is dealing with various injuries, including to key personnel like Deebo Samuel, Christian McCaffrey, and Trent Williams.
Bengals will face a stout 49ers defense
The 49ers have allowed just 14.5 points per game and have received solid cornerback play from Charvarius Ward and Deommodore Lenoir. The Bengals could potentially be back at full strength at receiver with Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, Tyler Boyd, and more. Higgins missed some time with a rib injury, but the hope is that he’s back in Week 8 against the 49ers.
49ers looking for a healthy McCaffrey
Ahead of San Francisco’s Week 7 MNF matchup, 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey is questionable after practicing without contact leading up to the game with an oblique injury.
Samuel is out with a shoulder injury and will miss a few weeks, so he’s unlikely to suit up here. The 49ers offense still has wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk at its disposal, but having McCaffrey on the field and playing a full slate of snaps could be key against a potentially high-scoring Bengals offense.

Bengals vs. 49ers injury report: Who’s out, who’s starting
While the 49ers are gearing up for Monday Night Football to close out Week 7, the Bengals, returning from a bye week, had Monday practice. Orlando Brown Jr. and Akeem Davis-Gaither did not appear. Brown Jr. is dealing with a groin injury, and Davis-Gaither has a knee injury.
As for the 49ers, we’ll monitor the status of Samuel, McCaffrey, Dre Greenlaw, Aaron Banks, and Williams leading up to the game. Missing Trent Williams would be a substantial loss to quarterback Brock Purdy’s protection.
