Surging 49ers hit the road to face dominant Eagles
We’ll see two of the best teams in the NFL clash on Sunday evening as the visiting San Francisco 49ers are on the spread versus the Philadelphia Eagles for a battle atop of the NFC. The Eagles (10-1) currently have the best record in the NFL, and a win would push them closer to securing home-field advantage throughout the playoffs.
The 49ers have ripped off three straight wins and come into the game looking for revenge in a rematch of the 2023 NFC championship game. They’re averaging the third-most yards and fourth-most points in the NFL this season, with Brock Purdy comfortably growing into his role as the 49ers’ starting quarterback.
The 49ers might have to attack the Eagles in the passing game to win
Kyle Shanahan’s offenses tend to feature a blend of the ground and passing games, but victory may have to come through the air on Sunday. The Eagles’ secondary hasn’t been at its best while allowing the fourth-most passing yards per game this season (255.7). Purdy is averaging a league-high 9.4 yards per attempt, and wide receivers Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel have a combined nine touchdowns this season.
The 49ers’ pass protection could also be key for them to find success, though. Purdy has been pressured on 40% of his drop-backs this season, per Pro Football Focus, and the Eagles’ defensive line still has some disruptive forces like Haason Reddick and Josh Sweat to contend with. The two have combined for 15 sacks this season.
Eagles’ path to victory likely includes more from A.J. Brown
Philadelphia’s star receiver has been quiet the last three games, averaging just over four catches for 37 yards. That’s limited involvement for one of the NFL’s best wide receivers, even though the Eagles won all three of those games. Now they’ll have to get there against one of the best defenses in the NFL.
Brown and DeVonta Smith may be one of the best one-two punches in the NFL, but the Eagles will likely need both of them to beat the 49ers. Brown has the fourth-most receiving yards in the NFL and is great after the catch, but he’ll have a tough matchup against Charvarius Ward. He’s averaging 95.5 receiving yards per game this season, but his over/under for receiving yards is at for Week 13.

San Francisco 49ers vs. Philadelphia Eagles injury report: Who’s out, who’s starting
The Eagles were hoping to have tight end Dallas Goedert back after he fractured his forearm in Week 9 against the Dallas Cowboys, but he’s been out of practice all week, and his status for Week 13 is trending in the wrong direction.
San Francisco could potentially be without Arik Armstead. The defensive lineman hasn’t practiced this week due to a foot injury.
