A home-grown sportsbook is now live for Ontario sports betting.
Toronto-based NorthStar Gaming announced Tuesday it launched NorthStar Bets for Ontario sports betting. The app includes sports betting in Canada and online casino.
“NorthStar Bets was designed and built for Ontarians and as an Ontario-based company, we’re excited to launch in our home province,” NorthStar Gaming CEO Michael Moskowitz said in a release. “We hope to inspire a sense of home team pride amongst our customers as they discover and engage with our platform and NorthStar Bets content.”
Ontario sports betting company
NorthStar Gaming emerged shortly after Canadian lawmakers altered the national criminal code to allow single-event wagering. The gaming company shares an owner, TorStar Corp., with the Toronto Star.
Earlier this year, NorthStar Gaming partnered with the Star to offer sports betting content on the newspaper’s website. NHL insider Chris Johnston and sports broadcaster Rod Black highlight the content team.
“NorthStar Gaming is uniquely positioned to become a convergence leader in the intersection of sports media and sports wagering thanks to our partnerships and agreements with leading media companies,” Moskowitz said.
NorthStar Ontario partnerships and approval
Since the launch of NorthStar Gaming, the company has partnered with Kambi and Playtech to power its online sportsbook and casino.
The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario registered NorthStar Bets in April.
NorthStar Gaming also has a partnership with Parleh Media Group to produce sports betting content.
