The Philadelphia Eagles come into Super Bowl 59 as an underdog to the Kansas City Chiefs, but talent-wise, there is no reason the Eagles can’t pull off an upset and win it all. The Eagles have an advantage in the run game, with Saquon Barkley and Jalen Hurts, one of the better running quarterbacks in the NFL. And their defense is downright nasty, with some elite playmakers and some punishing tacklers.
As for coaching, many consider that an advantage to the Chiefs, but Nick Sirianni, in just his fourth season as an NFL head coach, is making his second Super Bowl appearance. He is fiery and, at times, almost crosses the line with players and media, but through all of that, he has his team in a position to win the Lombardi Trophy.
With the upcoming weekend devoted to Super Bowl betting, we will break it down for you and share some potential reasons why — based on coaching, offense, defense, and special teams — the Eagles will win the Super Bowl. And for a different take, you can also check out why the Chiefs will win Super Bowl 59.
Eagles win the Super Bowl because of coaching
Under a constant spotlight, Sirianni has been in the headlines all season, and sometimes not for good reasons. Yet here are the Philadelphia Eagles back in the Super Bowl for the second time in three seasons. Sirianni is part of the new generation of coaches who depend a lot on analytics.
We have also seen him push his players’ buttons, but the Eagles have peaked at the right time, so one might say it has worked. He also has a great coaching staff, and to highlight one assistant, it would have to be offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland, who is widely regarded as one of the best offensive line coaches in the NFL. He has developed many lower-drafted players and no-name guys into pro bowlers.
Eagles win the Super Bowl because of offense
The Eagles’ offense has been one of the best in the NFL this season, and with its cast of stars, it is easy to see why. Starting with one of the best offensive lines in the NFL, followed by running back Barkley and quarterback Hurts, the Eagles’ run game has seemed unstoppable for much of this season.
The Eagles also have an elite group of pass-catchers, with one of the best wide receiver duos in the NFL — A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith — along with tight end Dallas Goedert. Many would expect Philadelphia to have one of the best passing offenses with weapons like that. It is an embarrassment of riches offensively for the Eagles, and it would not be surprising to see them put up a lot of points to lead the team to the win.
Eagles win the Super Bowl because of defense
Defensively, the Eagles have stars at all three levels, starting with Jalen Carter on the defensive line with two sacks, three deflected passes, and a forced fumble in the playoffs. Nolan Smith Jr. has four sacks this postseason at the linebacker spot, while fellow linebacker Zack Baun has 26 tackles. Then, in the backfield corners, Darius Slay and Quinyon Mitchell have combined for three interceptions.
Eagles win the Super Bowl because of special teams
Jake Elliot is a solid kicker for Philadelphia and has been strong in the playoffs, making six of seven field goal attempts, which includes several big makes against the Rams in the snow. Punter Braden Mann has a big leg, and even though the Eagles don’t use him often, he has been solid when called upon. Last but not least, the Eagles have an excellent group of returners, with players like Kenneth Gainwell and Cooper DeJean capable of taking any return to the end zone.
