Knicks vs. Celtics odds & analysis

The Celtics opened as 4.5-point favorites on the spread and have moved up to 5.5-point favorites at most books after drawing some early action. The Knicks are getting +190 odds on the moneyline, and the total sits at around 223.5 points.

Boston won the first four meetings with the Knicks last season before dropping a game to New York in April. The Knicks covered the spread in a 108-104 loss last Oct. 25 to open their season against the Celtics. New York (50-32) finished second in the Eastern Conference but was a full 14 games behind Boston (64-18) in the standings.

New York has made significant changes to its roster by trading for Mikal Bridges, re-signing trade acquisition OG Anunoby, and then trading Donte DiVincenzo and Julius Randle for Karl-Anthony Towns. The Knicks will be without Mitchell Robinson (ankle) and Precious Achiuwa (hamstring) on opening night. The Celtics will be missing Kristaps Porzingis (foot) for the first few months of the season.

Timberwolves vs. Lakers odds & analysis

The Timberwolves are 1- to 1.5-point favorites on the spread ahead of their opening matchup at the Lakers. The total has been bet down from opening at 223 points to 219 at most books. The Lakers are getting +105 odds on the moneyline at home.

This is the first game for new Lakers coach JJ Redick, a splashy hire with no previous professional coaching experience. The Lakers’ roster remains largely the same, with Rui Hachimura expected to enter the starting frontcourt alongside veterans LeBron James and Anthony Davis

The Wolves will be integrating new pieces in Donte DiVincenzo and Julius Randle after their trade with the Knicks. Rookie point guard Rob Dillingham could see early action behind veteran Mike Conley. Last season, Minnesota led the NBA in defensive rating (109), allowed the fewest points per game (106.5), and finished third in the Western Conference at 56-26.
