Rams vs. Lions Prop Odds: Player Props For Matthew Stafford & More

The NFL Week 1 schedule features a playoff rematch that is full of narratives on Sunday Night Football, with the Detroit Lions hosting the Los Angeles Rams at Ford Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:20 p.m. ET, with NBC on the broadcast.

Matthew Stafford is facing the franchise that drafted him first overall in 2009 and traded him to the Rams for another No. 1 pick, Jared Goff. The Lions appear to have the advantage up front in this matchup with a top-rated offensive line, and Goff has been far better in home games and indoor games throughout his career.

We’re taking a look at the available player props for Stafford and for Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs in this Week 1 NFL matchup, plus a sportsbook promo from Caesars.

Player props for Rams vs. Lions

How Matthew Stafford could top 272.5 passing yards

Stafford torched the Detroit Lions for 367 passing yards in the NFC wild card matchup last season, with Puka Nacua accounting for 181 receiving yards in the matchup. Now Stafford’s more experienced dance partner, Cooper Kupp, is healthy after missing much of the past two seasons with various lower leg injuries.

The Lions gave up the second-most passing yards per game (257) last season, and opponents produced the highest percentage of their yards through the air (73.8%) when facing Dan Campbell’s squad. The Rams’ offensive line does not grade highly according to most experts, so Los Angeles might struggle to run the ball, putting more onus on Stafford’s shoulders to keep pace with a high-scoring Lions team.

This number is quite high, and it could be a mistake to assume Stafford repeats January’s performance against Detroit’s secondary. The Lions parted ways with cornerbacks Jerry Jacobs and Cameron Sutton after they struggled last year and added former Bucs cornerback Carlton Davis.

They also used their first two draft picks on defensive backs Terrion Arnold and Ennis Rakestraw Jr., plus Brian Branch returns as a slot corner who can contain Kupp. If the LA Rams’ offensive line struggles to open up rushing lanes, it could also become a liability in pass protection.

How Jahmyr Gibbs could score an anytime touchdown

After suffering a hamstring injury during the preseason, Gibbs is reportedly close to 100% healthy heading into the opener. As a rookie, he split time with veteran David Montgomery, and the timeshare should continue, but both backs are getting short odds to find the end zone behind an elite offensive line.

While Gibbs has -120 odds to score at some sites, Caesars Sportsbook is offering even money for him to score a touchdown in the game. He was eased in as a rookie, then scored eight touchdowns over his final eight appearances, including one in each playoff game during Detroit’s run to the NFC title game. The Rams allowed five rushing touchdowns over their final three games last year and lost all-time great Aaron Donald to retirement.

It’s possible Gibbs aggravates that soft-tissue injury and has to leave the game. It’s possible the Lions decide to once again ease him into the season due to concerns about those injuries, so his touches could be limited. When Detroit gets near the goal line, Montgomery is clearly the preferred option to run between the tackles.

The Rams are trying to replace part of Donald’s production with top picks Braden Fiske and Jared Verse, with two more rookies coming aboard their revamped front seven.
