UFC light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira will enter his next title defense as a heavy favorite over challenger Khalil Rountree Jr. in the main event of UFC 307 in Salt Lake City on Oct. 5.
Pereira is currently a -450 favorite in what will be his fourth title fight in less than a year. Rountree Jr. is currently a +380 underdog after opening as high as +400. That line had narrowed all the way to +340 at one point, but has since gone back up.
Rountree Jr. was something of a surprise choice for this title fight. He was scheduled to take on former champ Jamahal Hill earlier this year but withdrew, citing an accidental violation of the UFC’s anti-doping policy. He received only a short suspension for that misstep and was later slotted into this 205-pound title fight despite having no victories over any fighter currently in the top 10 at light heavyweight.
Pereira has been on a tear since moving up in weight, with four straight wins as a light heavyweight. The last three of those came via TKO, and none lasted beyond the second round.
In the co-main event, UFC women’s bantamweight champ Raquel Pennington defends her 135-pound title against former champ Julianna Pena. Pennington is a -180 favorite in what will be her first attempt at a title defense since winning the vacant belt in January. Pena is a +160 underdog and has not fought since losing the title in a lopsided rematch with former champ Amanda Nunes in July of 2022.
The other important fight in the same weight class is slated for the undercard, where former PFL champ and Olympic gold medalist Kayla Harrison is a -649 favorite over the +500 underdog Ketlen Viera. If Harrison continues to be as dominant as expected, she will likely be the next challenger for the 135-pound title.
More UFC odds and props will become available as the fight approaches.
