Bally Bet launched its Maryland sports betting app on Monday, making it live now in nine states.
Bally’s completed a controlled demonstration of its product last week on July 25, when customers successfully placed bets on the platform.
According to MD sports betting regulators, the Bally Bet app functioned properly and complied with all procedures, allowing it to be licensed.
MD sports betting market shakeup
Bally Bet joins a MD sports betting market that recently has seen its share of additions and subtractions of NFL sportsbooks ahead of the 2024 season.
Earlier this month, Superbook announced it was no longer taking bets outside Nevada. The operator took in 0.1% of total Maryland online handle in June.
Betfred also recently announced its Maryland departure, with its app scheduled to shutter on July 31. Betfred’s retail sportsbook at Long Shot’s in Fredrick, MD, closed on June 30. The operator left Ohio this month, too.
Maryland market newcomers
Veterans Services Corporation (VSC) started taking bets in Maryland on July 1. It is a mobile-only licensee with operating partner Bee-Fee.
Microbetting platform Betr is also waiting for final approval to enter the Maryland market after applying for a sports betting license earlier this year.
Bally Bet performance
Maryland marks nine legal sports betting markets for Bally Bet. Five of those markets provide individual performance metrics for operators, including Bally’s sports betting app.
- New York: 0.2% of online handle since January 2022 while taking a 0.5% share this calendar year
- Indiana: 1.0% of online handle in 2024, which includes $1.1 million and $101,00 in June handle and revenue, respectively
- Iowa: 0.2% of online handle this year with $249.3 million in June bets and a $11,500 revenue loss
- Arizona: 0.1% of total online handle this year while taking in $1.3 million in May bets and earning $53,000 in revenue after deductions
- Ohio: 0.2% of online handle this year while giving away more promotional bets ($31,144) than it has made in revenue ($21,465)
Bally Bet also operates in Colorado and Virginia, which do not break out app-specific handle and revenue figures. Regulators in Massachusetts, where Bally Bet launched earlier this month, will provide Bally’s initial data in August.
