Gritty Buckeyes look to upset Harbaugh-less Wolverines
The Ohio State Buckeyes have leapfrogged the Michigan Wolverines in the latest AP Top 25, and now they face each other heading into Week 13. The Buckeyes defeated Minnesota in Week 12, 37-3, while the Wolverines beat Maryland on the road without head coach Jim Harbaugh, 31-24. Buckeyes running back TreVeyon Henderson rushed for 146 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries. Wolverines running back Blake Corum managed 94 rushing yards and two TDs on 28 carries.
Buckeyes’ defense looks to slow down Corum & McCarthy
The Buckeyes have one of the country’s best defenses, and this week, they’ll have to hold Corum and Wolverines quarterback J.J. McCarthy in check. This season, Corum has 180 carries for 888 yards and 20 touchdowns. He also has running back Donovan Edwards behind him to assist.
McCarthy threw for fewer than 150 yards and one interception against Maryland, but he’s completing well above 70% of his passes for the season so far and has just four interceptions. His interception against Maryland was his first since Week 3.
Wolverines’ path to victory likely includes halting Marvin Harrison Jr.
The Wolverines defeated the Penn State Nittany Lions a few weeks back. While the Wolverines, Buckeyes, and Nittany Lions all have top defenses, the Buckeyes have a downfield threat in Marvin Harrison Jr. who is averaging over 17 yards per catch and has 62 receptions for 1,093 yards and 13 touchdowns.
