Inter Miami vs. Charlotte FC preview

Inter Miami began the Leagues Cup tournament as the worst team in the MLS, trailing all other squads in the standings with only 18 points and five wins through 22 games. The addition of Messi to the roster instantly improved the team’s outlook, and it has not lost since. Inter Miami beat Mexico’s Cruz Azul 2-1 in the first game of group play, then routed MLS side Atlanta United 4-0 to advance. After a 3-1 win over Orlando City in the Round of 32, Miami then beat FC Dallas on penalty kicks to move on to the quarterfinals.

Charlotte FC entered this tournament in the bottom half of the MLS Eastern Conference and won two of its first four games on penalty kicks. A 2-1 victory over the Houston Dynamo in the Round of 16 propelled the team through to the quarterfinals, where it will have its hands full trying to stop Messi. So far this regular season, Charlotte has allowed more goals than any other MLS team.
