Path to the championship

The Nuggets closed out the season with a record of 53-29 and earned the top seed in the Western Conference. The club knocked off the Minnesota Timberwolves in five games in the opening round and needed six games to defeat the Phoenix Suns in round two. Denver then advanced to the NBA Finals with a four-game sweep of the Los Angeles Lakers in the conference championship.

The Heat went 44-38 during the regular season. After the club dropped its opening game in the play-in round to the Atlanta Hawks, Miami clinched the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference with a 102-91 victory over the Chicago Bulls

Miami was a hefty underdog for its opening series with the Milwaukee Bucks, but the team managed to stun the conference’s top seed to take the first-round series in six games. After defeating the New York Knicks in six games in round two, the Heat pulled out another stunner taking down the Boston Celtics in the conference finals. They led 3-0 in the series but looked to run out of gas with Boston forcing Game 7. Ultimately, the Heat prevailed.
