Idaho still has no legal sports betting, and nothing on the horizon suggests that’s about to change. In the eight-plus years since the US Supreme Court overturned PASPA in May 2018, not one Idaho lawmaker has filed a bill to legalize it, and the 2026 session wrapped up the same way. The bar is also higher here than in most states: Idaho’s constitution has prohibited casino-style gambling since a 1992 amendment, so legal sports betting would likely require a two-thirds vote in both legislative chambers and then approval from voters statewide.

Meanwhile, Idahoans don’t have to travel far to find a legal bet. Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, and Wyoming all offer some form of regulated sports wagering, leaving Utah as the only neighboring state that shares Idaho’s ban, and every bet placed across those borders is tax revenue Idaho doesn’t collect. Daily fantasy sports have been off the table since FanDuel and DraftKings pulled out in 2016, while prediction markets remain accessible even after Attorney General Raúl Labrador joined a coalition of 39 states in March 2026 challenging the CFTC’s authority over those platforms.

Is Sports Betting Legal in Idaho?

No. Idaho does not allow sports betting, either online or at retail sportsbooks. Unlike many neighboring states that have embraced regulated wagering, Idaho lawmakers have shown little interest in legalizing sports betting, and no major legislation has gained momentum in recent years.

That could change eventually, but there is currently no active path toward a regulated sports betting market. For now, Idaho remains one of the more restrictive states when it comes to sports wagering.

When will online sports betting launch in Idaho?

Without any movement at the legislative level, it’s nearly impossible to estimate when, if ever, online sports betting will launch in the state.

One thing is certain: if Idaho wants to keep up with neighboring states, it would likely have to launch online sports betting. Otherwise, business may continue to travel over its borders.

Oregon’s sports betting market is completely online right now and allows for remote registration. The Oregon border isn’t far from Idaho’s biggest metropolitan area, which includes the capital of Boise.

Other Forms of Idaho Sports Betting

While traditional sports betting is off the table in Idaho, residents can still find a few alternative ways to engage with sporting events and future outcomes.

Idaho Prediction Markets

Prediction markets are currently accessible in Idaho through platforms that allow users to trade contracts based on future events. Their status remains somewhat unsettled, however, as these platforms operate under a different framework than traditional sportsbooks and continue to face regulatory scrutiny in various parts of the country.

Trade on game results and real-world events through these top prediction market platforms below.

FanDuel Predicts

If you already know your way around FanDuel, this one will feel familiar. FanDuel built the standalone app with CME Group and launched it in December 2025. You pick “Yes” or “No” on an outcome and get paid if you called it right. Sports fans get the NFL, NBA, NHL, and college games. There are also finance, commodities, crypto, and culture markets to explore.

A June partnership with Crypto.com’s OG exchange brought in more sports and entertainment contracts, plus combos. Just keep the fee in mind, though. Every trade costs 2% of your potential payout.

Kalshi

Think of it as a stock market for real-world events. You trade contracts with other users instead of against a house. Everything runs on a CFTC-regulated exchange. There’s plenty to pick from, including sports, politics, economics, culture, financials, and even climate.

Fees only kick in when your order matches right away with one already on the books. They top out at 1.75 cents per contract on a 50-cent contract. Moving money in and out by ACH costs nothing.

OG

Crypto.com launched this dedicated prediction market in February 2026, and it has a fun, social feel. Leaderboards show how you stack up against other traders. You can also build parlay-style entries or trade on margin.

The sports menu runs deep, from the NFL and NBA to golf, tennis, MMA, and F1. Politics, crypto, finance, and culture markets round things out. Pricing is easy to follow at a flat 2 cents per $1 contract.

Polymarket

After years of watching from the sidelines, US traders finally got in on the action. The regulated US platform launched in December 2025 and dropped its waitlist in May 2026, with Idaho is on its approved list. Every market boils down to a simple Yes or No priced between $0 and $1. Get it right, and each share pays $1. You’ll find everything from politics and sports to earnings, tech, and geopolitics.

You only pay a fee when your order fills instantly against one already on the board. That fee peaks at $1.74 per 100 contracts on a 50-cent trade and shrinks as prices move toward $0 or $1. Combo trades have their own slightly higher fee curve. Geopolitical markets cost nothing to trade, while there are no deposit or withdrawal fees.

ProphetX

Sports bettors who like controlling their price will feel right at home here. It’s a sports-only, peer-to-peer exchange. You can set your own odds and wait for a match, or grab an offer already on the board. You can also back a team to win or lay against it, something a regular sportsbook won’t let you do.

Markets cover moneylines, spreads, totals, player and team props, futures, and live action across the major US sports. Instead of baking a margin into the odds, ProphetX takes a 1% to 3% commission on your net winnings.

Betting on Horse Racing in Idaho

Horse racing and parimutuel wagering are legal in Idaho, making racing one of the few forms of regulated sports-related betting available in the state. Live racing takes place at several fairgrounds and racing venues throughout Idaho, with race meets typically held during the spring and summer months.

Idaho residents can also wager on horse racing through simulcast betting and licensed advance-deposit wagering (ADW) platforms. Online racebooks such as TwinSpires and FanDuel Racing provide access to races from Idaho and major tracks across North America, allowing bettors to place wagers from their computers or mobile devices.

Some of the biggest advance deposit wagering operators, like FanDuel Racing, also accept customers from Idaho. That means horse racing bettors can place bets on their computers or phone. Check out more information on how to bet on the Kentucky Derby on the FanDuel Racing app here.

Daily Fantasy Sports in Idaho

Daily Fantasy Sports are generally considered prohibited in Idaho. Several major DFS operators do not accept players from the state, reflecting Idaho’s broad gambling laws and the absence of legislation specifically authorizing fantasy contests.

When will online sports betting launch in Idaho?

Legal sportsbooks would first need a constitutional amendment. As of 2026, lawmakers haven’t even proposed a sports betting bill. State leaders aren’t warming to the idea either. Attorney General Raúl Labrador has pushed back hard on federal moves that would undercut Idaho’s betting ban.

In August, the Ninth Circuit let Nevada enforce its gaming laws against sports event contracts, and that ruling also covers Idaho. For now, prediction markets are the closest option for Idaho sports fans, though their future in the state could shift.

Sportsbook apps that could launch in Idaho once the market gets green signal include:

  • BetMGM: Idaho bettors who want plenty of choice would find it here. There’s a deep betting menu across every major sport and some of the strongest promos in the industry. The standout feature is Edit My Bet. It lets you add, remove, or swap picks on a wager you’ve already placed. The app can take a little time to learn, and the odds aren’t always the sharpest. Its sleek design and rewards program would still make it a strong pick from day one.
  • FanDuel: First-time bettors in Idaho couldn’t ask for an easier starting point. They’d get a smooth, simple app with competitive odds and quick deposits and withdrawals. Same-game parlays would likely be the big draw on Vandals and Broncos weekends. A huge lineup of player props would give bettors plenty of ways to build them. Regular users might want more, though.
  • DraftKings: Bettors who like to wager while the game is still going would sign up on this one. Idaho players would get one of the best live-betting setups around, with real-time updates to react on the fly. Betting pools would let them go head-to-head with a small group of friends. The dark-mode design looks great and is just as easy to use.
  • bet365: One of the biggest names in global betting would bring its daily odds boosts and super boosts to Idaho. Live bettors would have plenty of options, and they could even stream some games right in the app. The app is beginner-friendly and well regarded for its customer service.
  • Fanatics: Idaho fans could finally bet and shop for team gear in the same place. Every wager would earn FanCash. You could turn it into bonus bets or spend it on jerseys and swag in the Fanatics Store. The platform is still adding features, and most players prefer the app over the newer website. Still, a rewards program that pays you back in merch would be hard to pass up.

Potentially popular sports to bet on in Idaho

There aren’t any professional sports teams in Idaho, though there is at least one college team that gets a professional level of respect.

The Boise State Broncos are Idaho’s only Division I FBS football team. Boise State is a regular when it comes to postseason college football bowls, so no doubt the Broncos are amongst the top favorite teams in the state.

Of course, Idaho would have to allow betting on in-state colleges in order to bet on Boise State. Some states, like New Jersey and Virginia, have decided to ban betting on those games.

There are plenty of sports teams located in Idaho’s border states that could also be popular bets. Those include the MLB‘s Seattle Mariners, the NBA‘s Portland Trail Blazers and Utah Jazz, the NHL‘s Vegas Golden Knights, and the NFL‘s Las Vegas Raiders and Seattle Seahawks.

Idaho betting timeline

August 2026

  • On August 28, the Ninth Circuit ruled 3-0 for Nevada. The court
  • rejected the view that the federal Commodity Exchange Act preempts state gaming laws for sports-event contracts from Kalshi, Crypto.com, and Robinhood.

July 2026

  • HB 504 took effect on July 1. The law bans bulk lottery ticket purchases and lets the lottery deny prizes on banned bulk buys. Retailers who knowingly help with such purchases can lose their contracts.
  • On July 15, Gov. Little accepted a record $90 million dividend from the Idaho State Lottery Commission for fiscal year 2026. Public schools received $56.25 million, and the Permanent Building Fund received $33.75 million.
  • Lottery sales hit a record $451 million, up 12.5% from the prior year.

June 2026

  • On June 12, Idaho joined 36 other states in an amicus brief supporting Ohio’s right to enforce its gambling laws against Kalshi at the Sixth Circuit.

May 2026

  • Live horse racing opened on May 3 at Pocatello Downs. Race days followed at Jerome in June and at Oneida County–Malad in late July and early August.

April 2026

  • The Legislature adjourned sine die on April 2 after 81 days in session. No new law authorized sports betting or online casinos.
  • The Idaho State Racing Commission’s April 29 meeting agenda included a vote on a new Advance Deposit Wagering (ADW) license for DraftKings Racing.
  • On April 30, Idaho joined a multistate comment to the CFTC. The filing argued that the CFTC lacks exclusive jurisdiction over many sports-related contracts sold as event contracts. Ohio led the 41-attorney-general coalition.

March 2026

  • On March 23, Attorney General Raúl Labrador joined a 39-state coalition challenging the Commodity Futures Trading Commission’s (CFTC) claim of authority over sports betting.
  • The coalition filed an amicus brief supporting Nevada in consolidated Ninth Circuit cases over prediction market platforms. Labrador warned that the CFTC’s theory would block states like Idaho from enforcing their sports betting bans.

February 2026

  • On February 2, House Bill 504 came before the House State Affairs Committee. The bill proposed Idaho Code changes to detect and prevent bulk lottery ticket purchases. Idaho Lottery Director Andrew Arulanandam and Security Director Tony Pitz answered lawmakers’ questions.
  • Gov. Brad Little signed HB 504 on February 26, 2026, as Session Law Chapter 6, effective July 1, 2026.

January 2026

  • The Second Regular Session of the 68th Idaho Legislature began on January 12, 2026.
  • Idaho’s legal gambling options stayed narrow. The state constitution permits a state lottery, pari-mutuel betting, and bingo and raffles run by qualified charities. It also bars any form of casino gambling, including poker, blackjack, and slot machines.

The Bottom Line on Idaho Sports Betting

Sports betting is still illegal in Idaho, and unlike most holdout states, there isn’t much of a live debate about it: not one legislator has introduced a bill to legalize it in the more than eight years since PASPA fell in May 2018. Daily fantasy pick’em contests are banned too, so the workaround bettors lean on in other non-betting states doesn’t apply here. What’s actually available are federally regulated prediction markets and legal horse racing wagering.

  • 📈 Best Prediction Market Pick: Polymarket | Polymarket remains accessible to Idaho users and offers the widest range of sports and event markets among the prediction platforms operating there.
  • 💰 Real-Money Alternative: FanDuel Predicts | FanDuel’s contract-trading platform gives Idaho users a way to put real money on game outcomes without a sportsbook license behind it.
  • 🐎 Horse Racing Fills the Gap | Advance-deposit wagering platforms such as FanDuel Racing and TwinSpires have operated legally in Idaho for years, making live and simulcast horse racing the closest thing to a licensed real-money sports wager in the state.
  • 🚫 No DFS, Either | DraftKings and FanDuel both stopped offering paid daily fantasy contests in Idaho back in 2015 under an agreement with the state attorney general, a stricter stance than most states that only bar sports betting itself.
  • 🛑 No Bill, No Momentum | Idaho legislators haven’t introduced a single sports betting bill since PASPA was struck down in 2018, and nothing suggests that’s about to change.

With no legislative push, no tribal sportsbook compacts on the table, and DFS off-limits too, prediction markets and legal horse racing wagering are Idaho bettors’ only real options for now.
