NFL Comeback Player of the Year favorites
Aaron Rodgers
Comeback Player of the Year odds: Aaron Rodgers +300 on BetRivers
Aaron Rodgers’ first season with the Jets came to an end on the opening series of his debut appearance. He went down to a season-ending injury, taking New York’s hopes for an immediate turnaround with him. Rodgers was the favorite to win the award all through the offseason. The Jets are off to a 2-2 start, but the offense has struggled with consistency so far this season.
Sam Darnold
Comeback Player of the Year odds: Sam Darnold +450 on Bet365
Darnold jumped up the odds board in recent weeks after leading the Minnesota Vikings to a 4-0 start. His four TD passes in a Week 3 win over the previously unbeaten Houston Texans forced the rest of the league to take notice. Darnold followed that up with three TD passes in a Week 4 win over divisional rival Green Bay.
Joe Burrow
Comeback Player of the Year odds: Joe Burrow +650 on BetRivers
The Bengals were without Joe Burrow for much of the 2023 season following a wrist injury during a pivotal Week 11 loss to the Ravens. Cincinnati dropped to 5-5 with the defeat, but it managed to stay competitive the rest of the way with Jake Browning under center, finishing at 9-8 and just missing a wild card spot. Burrrow’s return to form will be key for Cincinnati, but the team has stumbled to a 1-3 start so far, with its first win coming just this past week.
Damar Hamlin
Comeback Player of the Year odds: Damar Hamlin +1400 on FanDuel
Hamlin was a favorite to win this award last season after returning from a cardiac arrest suffered on the field in January of 2023. He was beaten out by Joe Flacco, but this season he’s seen a larger role within the Buffalo Bills’ defense, logging 19 tackles with one interception through the first three games.
J.K. Dobbins
Comeback Player of the Year odds: J.K. Dobbins +1500 on FanDuel
After playing just nine games over the last three seasons, J.K. Dobbins emerged as the NFL’s leading rusher through the first two weeks of the season. Dobbins struggled with injuries while playing for the Baltimore Ravens, but he has found new life with the Los Angeles Chargers and has shot up the odds board as a result.
Kirk Cousins
Comeback Player of the Year odds: Kirk Cousins +300 on BetRivers
Kirk Cousins is also on the comeback trail after having his season come to an end with a torn Achilles in Week 8. The Minnesota Vikings traded him to the Atlanta Falcons in the offseason, but Atlanta is now 2-2 with the offense still trying to find its stride.
Kyler Murray
Comeback Player of the Year odds: Kyler Murray +1000 on FanDuel
Kyler Murray has battled injuries almost his entire stay in the NFL, and when he wasn’t sidelined by knee trouble, he was at the helm of one of the league’s worst teams. Now, with rookie WR Marvin Harrison Jr. to throw to, there’s some hope for Murray and the Arizona Cardinals.
Anthony Richardson
Comeback Player of the Year odds: Anthony Richardson +4715 on Consensus
Anthony Richardson’s rookie season came to an end in Week 5. He appeared in four games before going down to season-ending shoulder surgery, also missing a start due to being in the league’s concussion protocol. He showed promise in limited time, however, throwing for three touchdowns and rushing for four more as the Colts went 2-2 with him at the helm.
Nick Chubb
Comeback Player of the Year odds: Nick Chubb +2000 on BetRivers
Nick Chubb was sidelined with ACL and MCL injuries in a Week 2 loss to the Steelers last season. The Browns rode a makeshift backfield to the NFL playoffs, losing 45-14 to the Texans in the wild card round. Chubb rushed for 1,000 or more yards in each of the previous four seasons, and the hope is that he’ll return to form as the RB1 for the Browns.

History of quarterbacks winning Comeback Player of the Year
Quarterbacks are riding a six-season winning streak of the Comeback Player of the Year award. That broke a run of four years in which the award went to another position. Prior to that, QBs had won the previous six.
In preseason odds for this season’s winner, a QB holds down the top four spots on the odds board and eight of the top nine. The four top favorites are all returning from injury, making them strong contenders to win if they can deliver a successful bounce-back campaign.
Voting for last year’s award was close, with Flacco edging out Damar Hamlin. Baker Mayfield finished in a distant third place. Current odds point to Chubb as having the best chance to end the QB stranglehold on the award, followed by Tank Dell and J.K. Dobbins.
