The Kansas City Chiefs continue to rewrite history in the NFL. The reigning Super Bowl champions defeated the Baltimore Ravens 17-10 on the road in their sixth consecutive AFC championship game appearance to progress to their fourth Super Bowl in the last five years. Now Andy Reid, Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and the rest of the Chiefs will look to become the first back-to-back Super Bowl winners since the New England Patriots following the 2003 and 2004 seasons.
Standing in the Chiefs’ way will be the San Francisco 49ers in a rematch from Super Bowl 54. The Chiefs came back for a 31-20 victory in that game, capturing their first Super Bowl in the process. Most of the top Super Bowl betting sites have the Chiefs () opening as slight underdogs in Las Vegas at the Raiders’ Allegiant Stadium. The game will kick off at 6:30 p.m. ET on Feb. 11, and you can watch on CBS.

Injury updates after AFC Championship game
Andy Reid did not have much to say regarding injuries after the AFC Championship win against the Baltimore Ravens. We will continue to update the statuses of players as we move closer to the Super Bowl. Andy did come on the mic to say this,
“I don’t have any injuries for you right now so I’ll have to get them to you tomorrow.”

Potential key missing players
Joe Thuney
Thuney missed the AFC championship game against the Ravens due to a pectoral injury he suffered against the Buffalo Bills in the divisional round. The Chiefs felt the All-Pro left guard’s absence, as Mahomes faced 15 pressures against the Ravens. Thuney’s replacement — Nick Allegretti — allowed three pressures and a sack, per PFF.
The offensive line’s performances have improved after a tough start to the season, but Thuney was the one constant. His 83.4 regular season pass-blocking grade was the best out of every guard in football, per PFF, and Thuney was a warrior, playing 97% of the team’s offensive snaps in 2023. There’s a good chance that Thuney needs surgery on his pectoral injury, which would make him a long shot for the Super Bowl.
Willie Gay
The Chiefs’ linebacker had been excellent in 2023 and was a potential choice to quarterback spy Lamar Jackson in the AFC championship game thanks to his instincts and athleticism. However, he missed the game because of a lingering neck injury, and that could carry over into next week’s matchup with the 49ers.
Gay wouldn’t be expected to spy Purdy, but he’d likely be a central figure in defending one of the premier offenses in the NFL. He’s an excellent defender against the run, and the 49ers are one of the top rushing teams in the NFL and totaled 155 rushing yards against the Lions in the NFC championship game.
