Potential key missing players

Mark Andrews

Mark Andrews has been out since a Week 11 ankle injury, and, though it initially appeared to be a season-ending injury, Andrews has made strides in his rehab and is back to practicing. However, the Ravens may still feel a little cautious, and his availability could still be in question.

The Ravens have turned to Isaiah Likely in Andrews’ absence, but the star tight end is a key piece of the Ravens’ offense. In 10 games, he caught 45 passes for 544 yards and six touchdowns and has always been a favorite target of Lamar Jackson. The Texans’ offense has shown it can put up points in bunches, even against good defenses, meaning this game may still turn into a shootout.

Marlon Humphrey

Injuries have limited Marlon Humphrey to just 10 games in 2023, but when he’s been on the field, Humphrey has consistently been a pivotal player for one of the best defenses in the NFL. The Ravens allowed just 191.9 passing yards and a league-low 16.5 points per game in 2023, and Humphrey allowed just 19 receptions when targeted this season, per PFF.

The former All-Pro corner missed Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s practices with a calf injury, and his status appears to be trending in the wrong direction. The Ravens’ secondary is almost back to full health aside from Humphrey, but he’s the best cornerback on the team, and his presence could be needed against Nico Collins, who tallied six receptions for 96 yards and a touchdown in the wild card win versus the Browns.

Jadeveon Clowney

Clowney had no injury designation on Tuesday but showed up on the injury report Wednesday with an illness. If it’s not a minor thing and Clowney can’t play through it, the Ravens would be without one of their best defenders. It’s taken a while, but Clowney seems to have finally found his feet as a pass-rusher.

The former No. 1 overall pick has tied his career-high sack total of 9.5, and his 71 pressures are the 12th most in the NFL, per PFF, and another career high. On top of that, Clowney still remains one of the best edge defenders against the run in the league. The Ravens have depth at edge with Odafe Oweh and Kyle Van Noy, but neither offers the same multifaceted skillset that Clowney brings to the table.
