User interface

The team behind the scenes at Underdog Fantasy has a wealth of experience. That becomes apparent from the first look at the user interface. Once you’ve set up your account, you’ll find a clearly laid-out lobby. 

Navigation is simple, as there are dedicated prompts for each available sport and type of game. In the account section, you’ll find links to game rules, customer support options, payment information, and more. Another feature is the built-in news feed. 

There are feeds available for top sports. You can scroll through and view the latest headlines with ease and expand an item to read more when something catches your eye. Overall, the interface at Underdog Fantasy is user-friendly.

Customer service

Underdog Fantasy offers customer support via email or by submitting a request directly through the website or app. Once logged in, you simply click to access the account section and locate the “contact support” tab. 

During our test run, we ran into some trouble logging in on the website after accessing the mobile platform without issue. We sent an email to customer support and received an instant reply that the request was received. 

A representative followed up and addressed the issue, which was a simple fix that was cleared up quickly. While we can’t promise that support will always deliver in such a prompt fashion, Underdog gets a thumbs-up on the support front in this case. 

Deposits and withdrawals

Underdog Fantasy sticks to the basics with payment options. You can find the cashier section by clicking on the dollar sign icon. That’ll bring you to the deposit screen, where you can choose from PayPal or credit/debit card.

Underdog best ball guide

Best ball has been around for some time, but interest in the game has grown in recent years. Underdog Fantasy has been one of the catalysts that has helped make that happen. Best ball is a featured offering at Underdog, and the platform offers several choices.

From the main lobby, the “Draft” tab lists all of the current offerings and available sports. There are tournaments and smaller contests to choose from, all with various numbers of entrants and costs of entry, as well as different timeframes for drafting. 

• Daily: The draft and the game itself draw from a single slate of games for a specific sport. 
• Weekly: Pick your team for a full week of play. You’ll accumulate points when your players are in action. 
• Season-long: Draft a roster for an entire season. Set it, forget it, and earn points from your optimal lineup.  
• Battle royale: You draft in fields of six players and compete against other users in a tournament for prizes.   

Best ball drafts are basically the same as a standard season-long fantasy sports draft, as participants take turns making their selections using a snake format. The big difference is that traditional season-long fantasy requires roster management. 

For best ball, you simply make your picks and that’s it. The platform will automatically select your optimal scoring lineup. In the account section of Underdog Fantasy, you can find a complete explanation of rules and scoring by sport. 

Using the NFL as an example, you’ll draft 18 players. There are no kickers or defense. Your optimal scoring lineup will be for the eight best-performing players at their respective positions: QB, RB, WR, and TE.

Speaking of the NFL, one of Underdog’s signature events that has helped put it on the map is “Best Ball Mania.” This is a tournament that costs $25 to enter and aims to attract over 600,000 entrants competing for $15 million in prizes. 

If tournaments aren’t your thing, smaller best ball games run from two to 12 entrants, with entry fees typically ranging from $3 to $100. For players who like best ball, as well as those who have never played but want to get involved, Underdog is a good choice.

Underdog pick’em guide

Underdog Fantasy’s pick’em games exist somewhere between fantasy sports and player props. Instead of drafting players, you’re making your selections from the available choices. There are two ways to play pick’em at Underdog Fantasy. 

• Higher/lower: Similar to an over/under sports bet, you’re making your picks against the available benchmark line. If you expect the player to exceed the line, choose higher; otherwise, choose lower. To play, you’ll make two to five picks from the available options.   
• Rivals: Instead of wagering on exact player outcomes, you simply choose which of two players you think will perform the best when it comes to a specific metric. Once again, you make between two and five selections per entry. The payout potential rises based on the number of selections you make. 

You’re also in control of your entry fee for the pick’em games. You can play with as little as $1 all the way up to a maximum of $500 per entry. Payout amounts vary based on the number of selections, but they can rise to as high as 20x with five correct picks.

As always, it’s challenging to be right with all of your picks to win. Underdog Fantasy does provide some assistance on that front. If you use the “Insured” option, you can still win with one missed selection when you make three or more picks, albeit at a reduced price.

When most users think of daily fantasy sports, thoughts turn to the challenging salary cap contests that are available at the industry stalwarts.

There’s no salary cap here. Underdog Fantasy takes a different approach to daily fantasy sports.

There are drafts available for single days and tournaments where you can compete for big prizes. Some tournaments allow multiple entries, but Underdog tries to address the massive multi-entry problem that plagues other sites with many single-entry contests.
