Those looking to play with BetMGM when the Alberta online casino and sports betting market open next month can now sign up.
BetMGM is one of more than four dozen brands already approved to go live when the latest online casino market opens on July 13. It is BetMGM’s second Canadian market after launching in Ontario in 2022.
Its Alberta online casino will include live table games streaming from the Playtech studio at MGM Grand Las Vegas.
Pre-registration opening was just one headline for BetMGM last week. The joint venture between MGM Resorts and Entain also saw MGM’s deal with Major League Baseball extended.
BetMGM flying solo
While BetMGM could launch multiple brands, it typically operates just its combined BetMGM sportsbook and casino in most markets and appears to be headed that way in Alberta.
Plenty of its competitors, meanwhile, are taking a multi-brand approach to the launch.
So far, five U.S. gambling operators are launching more than one brand:
- Bally’s with Bally Bet Casino and Monopoly Casino.
- bet365 with sportsbook and casino platforms.
- Caesars with its Caesars Palace and Horseshoe standalone casinos as well as the combined Caesars sportsbook and casino app.
- DraftKings with its own brand and Golden Nugget.
- Penn Entertainment with theScore Bet, theScore Casino and Hollywood Casino.
Other operators familiar to Ontario including Apollo Entertainment, ElectraWorks, Skill on Net and Super Group‘s Cadtree will all operate multiple online casino brands as well.
MLB deal continues
The agreement that saw BetMGM become the first official sports betting partner of the MLB in 2018 will continue following a multi-year renewal.
Along with the marketing integrations and the right to have MLB-themed games on the BetMGM casino, MGM remains the exclusive integrated resort and and casino partner.
“MGM Resorts and BetMGM have been great partners to Baseball for nearly a decade,” said MLB Chief Marketing Officer Uzma Rawn Dowler. “We’re excited to continue our relationship and together help create more unique experiences for our fans.”
The announcement came days before the MLB Players Association reportedly proposed a ban on all individual player prop bets, such as daily home run markets, according to ESPN.
