Missouri regulators approved 10 sportsbooks for temporary licenses, setting them up for launch when sports betting goes live Dec. 1 at midnight.

The Missouri Gaming Commission issued the temporary sports betting licenses Wednesday, though operators will still need their internal controls and house rules approved before they can launch on day one.

Missouri sports betting will mark the first new online betting market since North Carolina opened in March 2024.

The 10 licensees

Just about every brand on the list should be recognizable to any sports fan that has seen countless national sports betting advertisements.

The list is inclusive of DraftKings and Circa, the two brands that won untethered sports betting licenses, access not tied to team or casino partnership. While they pay a higher licensing fee, they do not have to share revenue with a market-access partner.

The other eight:

Suppliers from across the sports betting process also received temporary licenses, including:

  • BMM Testlabs
  • Integrity Compliance 360
  • International Betting Integrity Association
  • Genius Sports
  • GeoComply
  • GLI

Marketing push begins next month

Sports betting operators will have two weeks to advertise to Missourians and get them signed up before the market launches.

Sportsbooks are allowed to start signing up Missouri customers on Nov. 17. Just how many sign up should be a key early indicator of the market’s success.

Missouri is almost completely surrounded by legal sports betting states with its two largest cities, Kansas City and St. Louis, bordered by Kansas and Illinois, respectively.

The sports industry will be closely monitoring to gauge how much of Missouri’s betting activity is new customers and dollars, and whether neighboring Kansas or Illinois see any decline in their markets.
