Kansas sports betting is back on track for a Sept. 1 launch.

The Kansas Attorney General’s Office approved the remaining Kansas Lottery regulations Tuesday. Last week, the office notified the Lottery there were multiple issues with the regulations, shortly after the agency announced the Kansas sports betting launch date.

The Attorney General’s Office still needs to sign off on the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission regulations, which were submitted Aug. 17. The Lottery and KRGC regularly work with the attorney general and do not appear concerned about the outstanding regulations.

“There are significantly more of those regulations than there were Lottery regulations, and we will continue to expedite that process,” AG spokesperson John Milburn wrote in an email to LSR.

Kansas Lottery spokesperson Cory Thone confirmed the state remains on track for the launch next week.

All four state-owned casinos are ready to begin operations with a soft launch at noon on Sept. 1, Thone said. The full launch will be Sept. 8, just in time for NFL betting.

“The ‘soft launch’ is just a way to give our casino partners and their platforms a chance to get up and running, start taking bets, etc. before the official start of the professional football season,” Thone said. “Just adds some runway to make sure everything is safe, secure, and functional for our players.”

Perhaps the best poised for the early September launch is the Hollywood Casino and Barstool Sportsbook in Kansas City. The Penn Entertainment-operated property holds the naming rights for the Sept. 11 NASCAR race at the neighboring Kansas Speedway.

Kansans will also have access to most of the leaders in online US online sports betting. Each of the state’s four casinos can partner with up to three online sportsbook operators.

Several sportsbooks, including BetMGM and FanDuel, have rolled out pre-launch offers.
