Detroit Lions Ink Deal With BetMGM As Online Michigan Sportsbooks Near

Posted on September 3, 2020

BetMGM has been named the first official sports betting partner of the Detroit Lions.

As part of the deal, BetMGM branding will feature on team broadcasts, digital marketing assets, and in-stadium promotions and signage.

BetMGM will also be the presenting sponsor of free-to-play game Lions Bingo and the Lions Perks reward scheme.

“The Detroit Lions historic relationship with BetMGM has been years in the making and we’re proud to announce details of our official partnership,” said Detroit Lions team president Rod Wood.

“We’re continuously seeking new ways to entertain and involve our fans which is especially important during such unusual times; this partnership with BetMGM will provide additional and exciting opportunities to engage our fans.”

Where are the MI online sportsbooks?

Sports betting in Michigan was signed into law in late 2019. The first Michigan sportsbooks began taking in-person bets in March 2020 and online sports betting could follow by the end of 2020 or early 2021.

BetMGM’s chief marketing officer Matt Prevost added: “We are honored to be the first sports betting partner of the Lions and to offer their fans access to a variety of best-in-class promotions and perks only available on BetMGM.”

As part of the deal, the retail BetMGM book at MGM Grand Detroit Casino will also be offering fans exclusive perks and Lions rewards.

Sports betting gold rush for pro teams

The agreement is the second major partnership between a sports team and operator in Michigan after the Tigers partnered with PointsBet earlier this year.

And similar deals are springing up around other legal sports betting states. DraftKings today announced plans to open a retail book at the CubsWrigley Field.
