The National Council on Problem Gambling has a new national phone number for those looking for help with their gambling tendencies.

The new number, 1-800-MY-RESET, is now live, the NCPG announced Thursday morning. The change follows the expiration of an agreement with the Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey, which owns 1-800-GAMBLER.

1-800-MY-RESET works the same as the old number, according to the NCPG. Callers are connected to the National Problem Gambling Helpline Network, which relays them to one of 24 contact centers across the U.S.

What problem gambling experts say

The NCPG had been using 1-800-522-4700 after losing access to the prior number, but those with the organization believe an easier-to-remember is an important step to take.

“Problem gambling support should never be limited to a single moment or a single definition of harm,” said Derek Longmeier, President of the NCPG Board of Directors. “1-800-MY-RESET reinforces that the National Problem Gambling Helpline is available at any stage – whether someone is worried about themselves, concerned about a family member, or simply looking for trusted guidance. Making the Helpline number easier to remember is a practical, meaningful step toward reducing barriers to care.”

Broader adoption of the new number will vary by jurisdiction, and 1-800-522-4700 will remain active, but the NCPG hopes many states will use the more memorable number as sports betting and online casinos continue to be legalized across the country.

“With gambling now more accessible than ever, the National Problem Gambling Helpline is a critical lifeline,” said NCPG Executive Director Heather L. Maurer. “Making the number easier to remember helps ensure people across the country can quickly connect with high-quality, confidential support when they need it.”
