DraftKings Predictions is now live, bringing sports event contract trading to key states without legal sports betting.

Sports predictions are not available in all 38 states, but Friday‘s release confirmed they are live in the three most important states:

  • California
  • Florida
  • Texas

“DraftKings Predictions is a significant milestone and reflects our ongoing commitment to delivering products that tap into the passion of our customers,” said Chief Product Officer Corey Gottlieb. “We will create an unparalleled customer experience, leveraging key strategic relationships like ESPN and NBCUniversal to provide an authentic, real-time product that moves at the speed of sports.

“Along with our operational footprint, marketing and analytics infrastructure and advanced in-house technology, we believe we are uniquely positioned to lead this space over the long term.”

What is available on DraftKings Predictions?

The 17 states with sports predictions have limited markets available for the NBA, NFL, NHL, college football and college basketball.

There are no parlays allowed, like some of the larger predictions platforms have launched. DraftKings Predicts currently allows trading on the spread, alternate spreads and the outright winner.

There are also markets to predict the price of multiple stock indices, including the price of what they will be at certain hours of the day. Commodity, crypto and economic markets are also available.

What are the 17 DraftKings Predictions states with sports trading?

The group of states live with sports predictions are mostly states that have missed out on mobile sports betting so far:

  • Alabama
  • Alaska
  • California
  • Florida
  • Georgia
  • Hawaii
  • Idaho
  • Minnesota
  • Nebraska
  • New Mexico
  • North Dakota
  • Oklahoma
  • Rhode Island
  • South Carolina
  • South Dakota
  • Texas
  • Utah

Only Florida and Rhode Island have legal online sports betting out of the group. Florida is controlled through an exclusive agreement with the Seminole Indians and its Hard Rock Bet, while Rhode Island has one sportsbook operated by IGT.

Where are predictions banned?

The 12 states DraftKings Predictions did not launch in are, unsurprisingly, states that have pushed back on other prediction markets already:

  • Arizona
  • Arkansas
  • Illinois
  • Iowa
  • Maine
  • Montana
  • Nevada
  • Ohio
  • Pennsylvania
  • Tennessee
  • Washington
  • Vermont

The app is live in Connecticut but only allows trading on financial markets.
