Key games on the slate & last-minute Pick’em thoughts
Here’s a closer look at two of the matchups on the slate if you’re trying to finalize your card before the deadline.
Nebraska vs. Illinois
Illinois comes into this Big Ten matchup as a strong team with an 8-2 record and ranked in the Top 25, showing balanced scoring and solid defense early in conference play. Nebraska is also undefeated so far and ranked, making this a solid matchup. Historically, Illinois has held the upper hand in the series and they opened Big Ten play with a solid road win, while Nebraska’s historically been strong at home but this will be a tough test on the road.
Lean: Back the Illini to take the victory. Illinois has the edge as a ranked club with recent strong offensive and defensive showings, and they’ve had success against Nebraska in past meetings.
UCLA vs. Gonzaga
The Bulldogs enter this matchup riding high, and they just trounced North Florida in dominating fashion and sit at 8-1 on the season. Gonzaga also carries a strong track record vs. UCLA. They lead the all-time series 7-3, including multiple recent wins. That said, the Bruins showed they can hang with Gonzaga last season: UCLA snapped a four-game losing streak to the Zags in a tight 65-62 win at the neutral-site showdown. With Gonzaga’s hot form but a bitter recent loss to UCLA still fresh, expect this to be competitive.
Lean: Back Gonzaga to win outright as they look sharper overall this season and have the edge in recent head-to-heads.
